Would you want/need dinner after this?

Made a late bbq lunch-3/3.30

Chicken, pepper & onion skewers, big salad, bbq potatoes, baguettes & cheeses and watermelon.

Dh has just asked me what’s for dinner

Aibu that I Cba making a proper dinner
too? Just make yourself a frigging butty!

after a large lunch like that, dinner would extremely light and might not involve me "cooking".

We have lunch nearly every day at 2 as our main meal so have toast or cereal around 6ish which we just do for ourselves. Absolutely no way am I cooking twice in one day.

My mother always used to do this when I was little. She'd do Sunday lunch and then ask later if we wanted any tea. If I said yes I'd get, "Whaaaat?! After that huge meal?!" It was bloody hours ago!

My mother used to do the same! I had hollow legs as a child and I still get hungry. I’d definitely need beans on toast or something after having eaten at 3pm

He is being a bit greedy to want a full dinner after such a large and late lunch. It's not unreasonable to be hungry later on though, but most people would just want something light, like was suggested above, something like cheese on toast.

He is also unreasonable to ask you what is for dinner when you have just fed him. Why can't he get himself something to eat if he is still hungry

Absolutely this.

I would want something else to eat today, yes. Possibly not a full cooked dinner - but eating at 3pm doesn't mean I'm not going to eat again until breakfast tomorrow.

I'd have said 'I'm not cooking again, but help yourself to whatever' to him.

The title 'Would you want/need dinner after this?' suggests that you think it's unreasonable to want to eat for another 12 hours or so after a BBQ. And it's not. Some people will still be hungry by evening time.

I am bang smack in the middle of the healthy weight range, unusual as a middle aged woman. I eat three real meals a day, no snacks.

Yes, I'd be hungry if I skipped a meal, even if it meant eating two close together. More usual for me is a late breakfast but still wanting lunch at lunchtime.

In your circumstances I'd make a sandwich rather than 'dinner' but I'd definitely need a meal.

One of my sons is like that if we have a meal earlier or later than usual! He knows where the bread is!

No that's plenty. People eat too much in general. He knows where the kitchen is surely.

I'd probably want something for a late snack before bed but I'd just get a bowl of cereal or something.

I think he’s entitled to want dinner if he’s hungry even if you aren’t. But he’s entitled to sort that dinner himself because you just say “I’m not hungry, you can do whatever you want.”
