I don’t think a house spider would voluntarily go outside when it has a nice warm house to go inside.

I don't want them to die but I don't want them in my house so the compromise is that they get gently evicted outside. I'm happy to follow the information given by the spider expert at the world leading spider conservation project at one of the leading conservation zoos in the world!

This is a myth. Tegenaria spiders can and do thrive outside in tree hollows, under rocks and in caves and other dark places. They like houses because they provide easy access to small dark spaces and prey but they are perfectly fine outside. Source the spider keeper at London zoo.

You need to call your dad if you still have him and get him to search every nook and cranny until it’s found. This is what my dad did for me when a beast ran into my wardrobe he went though alll clothes until it was found!

When I was a young mum, I came back from Tesco to see a huge spider on my buggy basket and was convinced it came from my bananas! I called my dad who told me not to leave my buggy out on the communal balcony as was new and expensive. He arrived 20 mins later, he'd got straight in the car as knew I'd have left the buggy outside 🤣

I do so miss my dad, who passed 5 years ago... but tbf it was him who I learned my phobia from in the first place 😂

Look on the bright side it could be worse. I had a mink get into my house. They scream at you, like something possessed , lunge at you and spray the same stinking liquid all over your house as skunks. After 2 hours of my very best attempts to get it back out I had to call a neighbour to shoot it. It was traumatic 😱. The stench lingered for weeks.

By way of an explanation I live in rural Scotland in an area with a mink problem caused by them being released from a fur farm.

Also once had a bat fly in my front door but I got it back out with a child's fishing net 😂

It's not a daddy long legs type spider or a cellar spider, they are fine. It has thick legs, I've haven't seen a bigger one in the UK. I don't kill spiders.

I'll ignore the horrible comments. Everyone is different, people have different fears and phobias.

Definitely ignore all the lofty "all I fear is fear itself" replies. How empty must your life be to get your kicks out of belittling a stranger for having a phobia on the internet.

I am actually my family's on call spider catcher as the leggy fuckers don't especially bother me. But a rat or even more irrationally the bottom of the ocean has me almost hyperventilating (always a treat if the Titanic wreck randomly pops up.on the news)!

If it's any consolation then the spider definitely doesn't want to be around you anymore than you it. I think there are some plug in diffusers that waft out some sort of spider deterrent smell. Just a thought as it might be cheaper than estate agent fees!

No judgement at all for the fear, I don't mind spiders at all but ,my God, I can't cope with pigeons. Phobias are such a natural thing, I can't understand some of the comments here. The big spiders are coming inside due to the extreme heat, so you might see a few more. Invest in a spider trap as others have said, you don't have to seal up rooms then!
