Massive spider in lounge, shut the door and sealed with masking tape last night,now what?

I once approached a total stranger in the swimming pool car park and asked him to take a snail off my windscreen. Was parked under a willow tree, so I guess the snail fell, or jumped 🤔and landed on my car.

I'm freaked out by slugs, but not fond of snails either.

The man removed the snail, while staring at me warily the whole time. I could only assume he thought I was either madly keen on him and had an unusual chat-up strategy, or bonkers, or was trying to lure him in and kidnap him in a Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs manner, albeit in a Volvo estate not a van... I did not care: snail-away, result! 😃

I feel your pain. You need Simeon to help. I once got a delivery driver to come in and catch a spider for me!😱It’s weird I was more scared of the spider than the unknown adult male I let into my house!🫣He was so nice and understanding and helpful. I was lucky, he could’ve been a mad axe man! 😂Prob best not to do this. 🍀( hubby and mum were raging at me 😭)

You need to find a kind man. My brother used to keep a plastic cup and old beer mat in his room ready to rescue me from any monsters that appeared in the house. My cat used to eat them and now my husband deals with them. We used to get huge ones in our old flat.

I find a quick squirt of insecticide down the hose deals with that problem.

I suppose it is probably 14 pages too late to point out that any living room is going to have multiple gaps where a spider can get out and in, so taping up the door is going to be completely pointless.

My Auntie came home from holiday once to find that my cousin (who was in his 20s) had taped the end of the hoover up. When she asked why he said he'd hoovered up a spider and was scared it would crawl back out
He's mega intelligent, very logical and no nonsense usually. But he's also terrified of spiders.

I use the handheld hoover then I stuff the end with kitchen roll or similar then I leave it outside until husband comes home to empty it! I know I sound totally batshit crazy 😂

Some of the comments on here have pissed me right off! How can anyone on here judge someone’s phobia? Just because you think it’s ridiculous doesn’t mean that everyone can just “get over it”. Should people with a fear of heights just climb up the tallest ladder they can find? People with a fear of flying just need to get on a plane and shut up? I’m also claustrophobic so maybe I’ll get someone to lock me in the cupboard under the stairs and I’ll realise that it’s fine? Phobias can be irrational but to the person suffering they are very real so piss off with all your judgement.

I have a massive phobia of spiders, can’t even look at them on tv. I’m lucky that I have a patient husband who doesn’t mind picking them up and getting them back outside.

Also op as cruel as it is I find bug spray or hairspray will keep them still for enough time for you to go get a hoover or something. ❤️

This made me laugh, I have a similar policy towards wasps and can often be heard reasoning with them in the manner of a police officer at pub closing time giving the drunks a final warning to go home quietly. Flies, on the other hand…

@lightclock I’m fond of spiders but I suspect that’s because my DF briefly had a ‘pet’ one that lived in the corner of our shower when I was a kid. He named it Webster and used to sing to it in the shower 😁

A friend of mine is terrified of spiders and swears by the gentle spider catchers linked upthread - no harm to spider, no need for you to go near it!

I haven’t ‘learned’ any phobias. Nobody else close to me, has a fear of large spiders or needles. And my needle phobia came from a painful experience I had when I was very young. So what you ‘think’ is a load of bollocks.

You really don't understand phobias, do you? Often phobias are irrational fears. The person with the phobia can't help why they're scared, they probably know that the fear is unreasonable, but they can't seem to do anything to control their feelings. I've had my phobia since I was a small child, it doesn't get easier!
Some phobias you grow out of - up until I was 10, I had a massive phobia of ladybirds, I mean, I would scream the place down if one was anywhere near me - luckily I grew out of that one, but the spider thing, I've never been able to shake off.

There's multiple spiders in the UK that can do more than tickle with a bite. Will just be a bit painful, bee sting level at the most extreme end, but still not a tickle so you aren't even right about that part.

Agree. Anyone with a spider phobia knows that it is illogical,but that doesn't give other people the right to sneer and belittle them. I'm not keen on them myself, wouldn't say it's a full blown phobia though. I know a few people who have a phobia about rats and mice,but I wouldn't dream of trying to make them feel stupid about it.

So cruel. I'm arachnophobic but would never torture a spider like that.
