AIBU to worry that the high temperatures and humidity that affecting my health will spoil my DM’s birthday plans?

It’s my DM’s birthday in the next few days and booked it off plus the following day too.

Planning to go out on both days and it’s 33c and 31c. I’m sick of this heat and humidity. It’s making me feel ill, giving me anxiety attacks, having reduced appetite (that is not me) and get tired easily from just general thinking that do with your work.

Im trying to think positive about DM’s birthday but all I’m getting is the high temps. Then cry.

Just don’t want DM to think I have ruined her birthday

My Husband has MS - the heat makes his symptoms flare and can cause relapses. So I get the worry with the heat.

However there are ways to make yourself more comfortable and allow you to enjoy living.

What are you planning on doing for your mums birthday? If it is a dinner / drinks / indoor situation try to pick somewhere with air conditioning.

Get yourself a cooling neck fan and combine it with ice packs. Run cold water over your wrists. Limit the time you spend in the heat - if you are outdoors pop into the shops and linger in the frozen section for 15 minutes.

You need to also look into getting yourself a small pool / bowl / bucket so that when you are home you can cool your feet, and a portable air conditioner to make home more comfortable for yourself.

Sorry just seen your update- I'm leaving that advice here incase anything is useful, but otherwise take antihistamines and remember to carry your inhaler, Asthma and hay-fever are not unusual conditions and people do manage, I'm sure you can push through for a couple of hours and recuperate later.

I think you need to suck it up. Unless you have a medical condition which makes heat truly dangerous for you, wear cool linen, get a mini fan and a bottle of cold water and cope.

I'd be less than sympathetic if my daughter cried or backed out of a birthday arrangement because she was hot! We're all hot!

Asthma and hay fever.

If it’s actually making you ill, you shouldn’t do anything at all. Let her enjoy her birthday celebrations without you.

Some of you need to move up north.

Comtesse · Yesterday 20:04

Birthday cinema trip? That wouldn’t be too hot.

YoQuieroVino · Yesterday 20:03

What are your plans? Go somewhere indoors with aircon.

If you cry, that will ruin it. Have a cold shower, take a fan, water mist bottle and drink water.

Go somewhere air conditioned and without meaning to be unkind just deal with it for a couple of hours so it doesn't spoil her birthday.

Right so you can’t change the heat so all you can do is try to mitigate its effects on you. I’m not great in the heat and when I had to work through the horrific late June red warning heat wave I used a neck fan, cool towels, loose light clothing, iced water in a insulated bottle, ice packs at night to help me cool down enough to get a good nights sleep for recovery and a big brimmed hat during the day with one of those cooling sprays and ate lots of fruit and ice lollies.
What were you original plans for her birthday?

Go somewhere that's air conditioned

Have you got a neck fan?
We also use a cotton neck scarf, kept damp, to lower our core temperature.

Drink plenty of water.
Choose activities that aren’t too arduous. Theme park? Really hard work. National trust park with lots of trees and grass? Perfectly pleasant.

And how old is your DM and how old are you?
