Have you checked if you would be entitled to the grant? You can't take it with you but surely if you move, you'd move somewhere suitable for your needs. It's worth checking if there is funding available rather than outright no because it's not your house, the pavement isn't your LLs.

People on here were absolutely convinced I could reverse onto my driveway to facilitate the driving forwards off my driveway to avoid the parked car opposite, whilst giving no head space to the fact I had that car impinging on my turning circle alongside my other neighbours son’s girlfriend’s car that was impacting me in a whole other way by creating a slalom on the road.

Eventually the people opposite moved on and my life became tolerable again.

Honestly Mumsnet driving threads are horrid. If you show any vulnerability, uncertainty, wavering confidence, humanity even, then the verdict is that you shouldn't drive. For a driver who isn't that confident, it just dents confidence further. It's unfair but it's also deeply unhelpful.

Have you phoned the council @AutisticMumOf2 to ask for a dropped pavement? It might make it easier for you to reverse into the driveway. You should be entitled to funding to cover most it not all of the cost through a disability access grant.

People here are being unnecessarily cruel here. What we know:

1. the op parked before the neighbour. In doing so, she did not cause a road obstruction.

2. only after she did this did the other car park opposite her (which it didn't need to do), which made it more difficult (but manageable) for other cars to pass.

3. the OP parked mostly on the pavement, which isn't recommended but isn't illegal (and is common practice in some places). It is wide enough for pushchairs and prams because the OP sometimes uses a pushchair. Accordingly, she did not block the pavement or break any laws.

4. the OP parking outside rather than on her (legally dodgy) driveway, because it's the first time she'd driven the car and is getting used to it's size etc, is fine. It doesn't mean the car is too big for her, or that she shouldn't drive. Give her a chance!!

I hate the way on so many Mumsnet driving threads, the verdict seems to be that only 'perfect' drivers should be allowed to drive. Give the poor woman 24 hours to get used to her car!

OP will have a blue badge, she’s a wheelchair user. It costs more than £400 to have a disabled parking bay where I live, and even if someone pays for one, they aren’t guaranteed sole use. Anyone with a blue badge can use these bays.

If OP can’t manoeuvre the car she is driving - she shouldn’t be driving it.

Maybe they also dont have a drive but a paved garden as the OP seems to have and shes calling it a drive.

I’ve got a large, adapted Motability car so it will fit my power chair in. When I picked it up from the garage I drove it home and reversed it on to the drive, just as I did the one before. Most modern cars have cameras and parking sensors now which makes it easier to park them. The other day, I had to do 2 or 3 manoeuvres to get it on because the neighbours opposite had visitors but I wasn’t leaving it in the road.

You just have to get on with it. Whenever OP puts it on the not drive for the first time it’s going to be different to her last car so why wait?

She also said that the landlord won't pay for that - and it can cost £2000 depending on which local authority. The council can't force the LL to pay and won't do it for free.

Apply for your blue badge it's easy online. Then the disabled bay.

Some posters seem to ignore the fact that reversing can be difficult anyway .
The OP might have neck or shoulder problems . Even with power steering and cameras she'd still need to be able to twist or turn comfortably to ensure she can see what is beside her or judge distance ,

Her neighbours really could show a bit of consideration or not scream like a banshee at her .

Did you read the thread? Car is a mobility car adapted to OPs need yhey probably didnt have much choice of what car to get and a wheelchair often wont fit in a smaller car.

OP does not have off-street parking. A tarmacked front garden with no dropped kerb is illegal to park on.

Ah - but you have a turning spur! My driveway is bareley bigger than a supermarket parking space, no room for any off-road manoeuvering
