Aibu for traffic…am in the NE. Had a handyman quote for some bits round the house….hanging pics, replacing shower sealant, sorting a sticking door. That kind of thing. Quote back is £85 for the first hour and £45 each hour thereafter.
Judging from social media he’s good and busy but I was not expecting it to be that pricey. Is this reasonable, I am a bit out of touch
with the going rate? Thanks

Does your local council have a handyman service? Ours does and it's only 10 quid per hour. Obviously the handyperson is on a wage so they don't just get a tenner. Ours used to only be for disabled people but they opened it out to everyone now.

But for a private handyman that sounds about right but I'm down south.

You can also try airtasker or taskrabbit. I've used the latter and the tasksrs are very good. They each set their own fee and you pick which one you want.

I’m in the South East and recently hired a handyman for the first time, it was £80 for a set job, to be honest the fact he was skilled, fast and brought his own tools was well worth it. You’re paying for all of the above and their travel time so I would say that’s fair, especially if he has good reviews.

I had a quote from one in Bristol, it was £50 for the first hour and £30 every hour after that.

I wld be a bit wary of paying per hour. I’d rather know a price. What if they are “slow”. Are they telling you an expected time it would take?
I once had a painter and decorator charge per hour. He was having lots of fag breaks and was too chatty for my liking. He was very reasonable price wise so I didn’t say anything.
I often use a handyman, he’s more like a self trained joiner to be honest and his work is very good. He’s done various jobs for us and he charges per job.

Yes I’ve not had the job done yet, he reckons about three hours to do everything asked.
