Should Ariana/her team be posting images like these ?

This is from her official instagram. I understand she is unwell but putting out these kind of images must be so damaging for young girls, especially ones already struggling with body image issues. This image is really concerning. Where are her family ?!

Where are the families of the young girls accessing her images?

Wornouttoday · Yesterday 09:09

I’m not a follower of celebrities but I heard that she’s taking a step back from public life. Releasing this photo seems to contradict her recent announcement. More attention seeking nonsense?
And yes she’s scarily thin and obviously needs psychological support.

emuloc · Yesterday 09:14

Why is a photo being released if she is taking a break anyway. That picture belongs at the bottom of a drawer, afaiac.

mojojojoo · Yesterday 09:16

Not sure if it’s a new pic, may be an older one from earlier in the tour that’s circulating. Even so, old or new it is not good

Well quite, it goes both ways but surely the team behind the clearly anorexic pop star need to take a little more blame than parents here ?

It’s all PR, that’s all they want, to be current. Why can’t she just step away quietly instead of announcing it? 🤔

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 09:26

@TrunkElliot I’m sure most would think Ariana official site would be a safe place as her audience is mainly young teenagers? She obviously thinks looks beautiful in this image.

neverbeenskiing · Yesterday 09:29

YANBU. She has complained about how the scrutiny and people commenting on her body impacts her, but her team are releasing videos and imagery clearly intended to accentuate the fact that she is severely underweight. The people who are supposed to be looking after her clearly do not give a fuck about her wellbeing.

porridgecake · Yesterday 09:30

I really hope she will get the privacy, care and help she obviously needs. It is so sad to see that photo.

Backedoffhackedoff · Yesterday 09:33

“Where are her family”

this always seems to indicate that if her family were in the slightest interested, she would be well. But that’s not the case is it? She could be getting support and help, but it’s not going to stop her being so underweight quickly, if ever.

whilst I am surprised that insta isn’t blocking this images as thinspiration, we can’t know who Ariana’s end is deciding to post these images and why. It could likely be her, or she is so powerful that people just do what she says. It is her image after all

I suspect that her marketing team are hoping that her evident anorexia will just be another marketable feature of her. If she’s taking a break from singing and acting, they’ll need to find other ways to keep the public interest and the money rolling in.

I don’t know how much of the tour is left to do, but she may end up collapsing before it’s over.

Morepositivemum · Yesterday 09:35

If it wasn’t for her actual body, this could be taken as a photo about freedom or dancing. If this was someone else I think that’s what it would be seen as

porridgecake · Yesterday 09:36

Remember Karen Carpenter.

PrettyLittleRose · Yesterday 09:37

Oh dear, that is a very worrying pic.

Probably is a good idea that she steps back from fame/the public eye for several years. Get herself well again.

there is a lot of evidence she’s had a form of eating disorder from a young age. Unfortunately think it’s doubtful she will get better but I do think the hope is she can manage her ED enough to maintain a healthier weight.

Anything for click bait and views is unfortunately the way society works.

People uploading assaults, car accidents, murders or in this case using a vulnerable person’s misery for sport.

It is the new age of watching brutal colosseum blood sports or a travelling to see a public hanging.

People like misery.

Too add, the backlash for her public affair hasn’t helped her mh.

I’m not convinced by this. Ariana grande doesn’t want clicks or views. It’s a photo she has posted on her own instagram, it’s not click bait.

I think it’s been posted because, due to her eating disorder, she thinks it’s a great image.

Some of the pics in recent months look like pro ana blog ‘thinspiration’ pics from the 00s. Shocking that her team have posted them. And I don’t mean photos of her looking thin, I mean purposely ones where she is posing and the lighting is tweaked to make her look emaciated. Before anyone jumps down my throat there’s a difference between a photo of someone thin and thinspo photos. If you remember those pro ana days on the internet, you know what I mean.

Yes, they call it body checking I think

I believe the most deadly mental health illnesses are food related such as anorexia.
I remember being young and desperately wishing I looked like Mary Kate Olsen.
It wasn’t until I met Nikki Grahame in real life I realised how fucked up anorexia really is. Until then I just thought being skinny was glamorous.
The Ariana images are akin to the pro ana of my youth. She needs help and she has a duty of care to her fanbase to not release images that look like she’s a few skipped breakfasts away from heart failure.
Children and teens will have these images seen as the most beautiful and glamorous ways to aspire to look because she’s their idol. Same way they felt about her before the weight loss, young people are so impressionable and this is a scary message to send out.
Ariana has better resources than anyone who’ll access mental health services for an ED, I hope those services are utilised and wish her the best of luck in her recovery.

Something really shocked me in the 00s. I met Sarah Michelle geller. To my knowledge SMG has never appeared unhealthily thin or been in the bucket of thinspiration Hollywood stars. She’s still in the public eye and still looks fantastic.

however she was incredibly, incredinly thin. I had never seen anyone in real life like that.

She actually looked, in real life, Close to the way Ariana looks now in photos, which makes me wonder in a slightly horrified way what Ariana must look like IRL.

Crumpetring · Yesterday 10:05

I was ready to agree with you OP and went to Instagram to report the post for pro anna content.

But you’ve either found a different post or cropped and zoomed in a lot. The recent post with this photo is small, one of 20 and the focus of the image is not on her bones anywhere near as much as the photo in the OP suggests. The image is quite artsy and a small part of a series of photos of the performance.

The messaging about her stepping back is hugely irresponsible. It's been framed as her needing to take a break because she is being unreasonably scrutinised. Ie, nothing wrong with her at all, the problem is with other people wrongly suggesting there is. This affirms the beliefs of those suffering from ED. We're fine, they're all wrong.

troothfairy · Yesterday 10:10

She’s clearly not well and it’s unsurprising after what happened in Manchester, its a lot for anyone to deal with. Someone needs to help her get better asap instead of continuing to push these sorts of images, terrible influence on young girls.

I saw it screenshotted from Reddit and screenshot it myself to share here.
The fact is that image is still there, whether you have to zoom in or not is irrelevant surely ?
