Did Ruby Franke's husband know about the child abuse?

Just watching the documentary on BBC iPlayer. How could he not have known what was going on? Who abandons their kids for a year with very little reason to do so, and how could he say he wanted his wife back knowing what she had done?

I read the book from Ruby's daughter and she said that most of the abuse didn't really happen until her mum kicked him out and wouldn't let him see the children it mostly occurred after that Jody woman moved in the older kids don't seem to blame him

In the documentaries i’ve seen about it he comes across as just not the sharpest tool in the shed who was brain washed by that awful other woman. I don’t think he knew his head from his arse to be honest.
