About this airport transfer?

Maybe I need some perspective. We are in Crete on a holiday booked with Jet2.

We booked airport to accommodation return transfers as standard. When we arrived at the airport in Heraklion, the Jet2 rep told us we were in a taxi because a coach couldn’t get to our apartments. Narrow lanes. OK, lovely, never visited the island before so wouldn’t have known.

Now, I have assisted travel booked at the airport as I have heart failure & associated mobility issues. I always buy adequate insurance but I can’t walk up hill for any distance.

Today we have received our return transfer details. Pick up is at an electrical retailer a 15 minute uphill walk away. DH, who is very physically fit has timed the walk this evening, it’s 15 minutes for him. If I could even manage it it would be 30 to 45 minutes.

Jet2 are refusing to budge. Saying that’s our pick up point so it’s our responsibility to get there. I’m saying they recognised we needed a taxi on the way in so obviously we do on the way out? Or at least a taxi to meet the coach?

Opinions please.

It’s not ideal but to save it causing an issue on your holiday just get a taxi to the pick up point and then email them when you get back.

Our “rep” doesn’t visit the apartments and told me on WhatsApp today that the pick up point is “easily accessible”. His only option is us booking a private taxi back to the airport at a cost of 100 euros.

I’d message Jet2 online or phone them. Get them to arrange you a taxi to take you to the pick up point. I’ve never heard of anything like this. I’ve been on tons of package holidays.

I feel your annoyance. You are better off getting the taxi to the pick up point and then complaining to head office when you are home. I would mention how good the airport rep was.

I always get private transfers, these days they are easy to book and often cheaper to get an independent local company rather than the big holiday firms.

It follows on from one holiday where we were collected at 8am for a 1pm flight, drove around the resort twice, returning to the same hotel twice...we tried a limited drop off the next time and sat waiting for the next flight to land with another couple from our flight...it was a 50 minute wait.

I'd contact Jet2 head office. Jet2 really focus on customer service and have built a reputation based on this. I'd expect them to sort this.

hahabahbag · 06/08/2026 22:25

I must admit I’ve only had transfers for hotels on ai packages, but even then I’ve had to lug luggage 10 minutes or so because that’s where the coach stop is. I think when you next book you need to speak to them at the time of booking and check these details. I’d assume like you did until
it happened to me, and that’s was 50+ of us walking up a steep hill

I would just book myself a taxi to the pick up point and think no more about it.

This. Are you really going to waste time and energy on something that could be dealt with for a couple of euro? Just book and pay for a taxi. Lots of transfers have a collection point it’s not unusual , we always get a taxi . Try and claim for it when you’re at home if your really irked , Im relatively fit but no way would I walk up a hill for 15 mins with a suitcase , fuck that, we would get a taxi .

I have a heart condition linked to heart failure where I can’t walk up an incline at all as get angina heart attack symptoms and was like this at 40. My wonderful cardiologist has put me on meds that allow me to do this now but no way could I walk 15 mins uphill with suitcases etc too!!! Most people would think this is too much even when they are fit and well!

WonderfulSmith · 06/08/2026 22:41

Have you spoken to Jet2 directly or just the rep? I’d contact them directly. Are you registered disabled? It would look very bad if they made you walk if you are. But as said upthread don’t worry about it and spoil the holiday.

hyggetyggedotorg · 06/08/2026 22:44

Thank you everybody for your comments. I’ve been on WhatsApp to the UK team who just keep repeating that the decision falls to the “resort team” who think it’s easily accessible 🤷‍♀️.

We’ll get a taxi, you’re all right, it’s not worth losing sleep over. In my previously healthy days I wouldn’t have worried (not that I’ve ever experienced a pick up point more than 2-3 mins away before). There’s a kind of fear of being stranded that comes with knowing you can’t walk far I suppose.

Spesk To the rep or call the assistance number.

Second option get a taxi and file a complaint on your return asking for compensation (more than the £10 taxi fare for the inconvenience).

You are not being unreasonable. Even being able I don’t think it’s reasonable to have to walk 15 mins to a pick up point.

Onefairfish · 07/08/2026 07:43

For 10 euros and peace of mind I’d pay for the taxi, but I would leave a negative review of the company.

It its easily accessible they'd be coming to your hotel. I have a friend who complained to Jet2 about a similar issue online, eventually they gave in and repaid her money she had paid for something. So I'd go back on whatsapp and ask to speak to someone higher up and insist its sorted out. Say that you can not do a 15 min walk in the heat and will miss your flight if you attempt it, you will be unwell. Imagine a family with babies and suitcases etc? Its ridiculous.

Edited

I have a blue badge & receive PIP, so fairly disabled I guess. Better off than some but also worse than many.

I think there's fault on both sides here. You're not very mobile and you've gone somewhere that's not well set up for that, hilly, with streets too narrow for a transfer coach. I've seen in the information often for places like this warnings about not being accessible by coach or even car and to expect a walk. Add the old part of Girona and most Spanish white villages to the list above. If you have such needs, it's up to you to research properly to see any potential issues, you can literally walk the streets and see the gradient profile on Google, so it's easy to do.

However, it's also on Jet2 to make clear in their booking information that sometimes a walk is required, and I have seen this. Given that they could solve this problem for the cost of a short taxi ride, they could do this in the name of good customer service. However, if they're not forthcoming, I'd just ask the hotel to book one and suck up the cost, or they may offer to take you in their shuttle.
