AIBU to think an Edinburgh festival show about Meredith Kercher's murder should be stopped?

What i objected to was you saying 'shame' for people who think differently to you.

There are loads of distasteful shows on at the fringe, the weirdest leaflet I got handed to me was for Hitler the Musical!

I really dislike Amanda Knox but I don't think she should be silenced. I understand why Meridenth's family are upset but the show is about AN experience.

I can get my head around Meredith's family reacting as they have, but shame on anyone else who signs that petition.

I hadn't realised that. Just fell down an internet rabbit hole on the whole case. Not sure why I'd never heard of it. Really bizarre and shocking story. I can see it making a good drama. But stand up comedy ... ?!?!

It sounds like it’s a show about what happened to Amanda after the murder rather than what happened to Meredith. Not something I would want to watch but people are allowed to see it.

I think Amanda is innocent, but I found her Disney+ show utterly cringe-worthy and awful but she is allowed to share her experience of what happened without being banned for it.

The problem is tho it is also her story to tell. She was wrongly accused of her murder. Its not like she was completely uninvolved and just picked a hideous event out of nowhere to make into a show.

I hadn't heard her story so just looked it up. So tragic.

Generally, I think it's fine (often even positive) to make theatre from real tragedies - eg London Road, Grenfell, Come From Away, Deep Cut, The Bomb, Punch, Manhunt etc).

But if the girl's family want it pulled then I think their wishes should be respected. It would be hard on everyone who has worked hard on it but they should have sought permission and included the family before doing any of the work.

And I'm all for shocking and subversive in theatre but I can't imagine how this could ever make an appropriate comedy!! Hopefully that is a mistake and by 'entertainment' they mean something hardhitting and powerful.
