Well, my story is pretty scandalous. I’m from Indian heritage … a cousin I had not seen for years invited by my family to my wedding - she wore her bloody wedding outfit her glam reception - red outfit - all her freaking jewellery I mean Wtaf and I’m still not over it and it’s been 17 years

This was only a 'scandal' of sorts for me personally! But last year I began dating a woman who had nagged me for months to date her, I was happily single but I did like her and she seemed very keen, we talked a lot (we were part of a wider friendship group) and I talked myself into it, telling myself I was being silly, perhaps she was right and we could work up to something very good.

One of the first conversations we ever had, she'd mentioned that her little sister was to be married soon, she was the MOH and she didn't have anyone to take as a plus one. I didn't think much of it at the time but said I hoped she found one and she asked (jokingly so I thought) if I would be it. I barely knew her at the time. Anyway after we started dating naturally I agreed to be.

Turns out, that's literally ALL she wanted me for. The rest was all lies. I found out from the grapevine that she has form for this and as I am 'easy on the eye' (apparently) and good company she thought I'd be ideal. She turned cold on me days following the wedding, started changing her attitude toward me, picking me up on very small things and making them into arguments then dumped me around 10 days later...
Madness. And made me much more wary of who I believe/when to listen to my instincts!

ETA(I am a gay woman)!

Omg !!! What a fucking bitch….. hope you’ve met much nicer women since her !! X

Must be!

Although they do have their massive compound in East Grinstead, so surprising that they'd use somewhere else. I can't think of anything else that'd qualify for the description though.

Confirm Scientology.
Can confirm wasn’t the Cole’s.

My cousin wore a jumpsuit so tight that you could literally see her labia minora. It didn’t bother me but it looked bloody uncomfortable and lots of people commented on it! 🤣

murasaki · 06/08/2026 16:30

I'm voting Ashley Cole and Cheryl many surnames over time.

I worked a celeb wedding once, circa 2009. A singer and a footballer. The brides mother wasn’t a fan of the groom and decided as a protest to go and have a bath in the bridal suite a few minutes before the service was due to start and she stayed there a long time! The couple did divorce after due to his cheating.

I have also been a wedding crasher. At a spa weekend and had a few too many cocktails. Walking round the hotel and hear the music, having a whale of a time with my mates dancing with guests, but the bride didn’t see the funny side. I bolted but my friend stayed and had a full on row with the bride about we didn’t mean any harm 😬 mortifying!

Too outing but when I got married the hotel didn’t tell us the rest of the large hotel had been booked out by a certain religious group which included some celebs who were there for their annual convention. Very weird!

did you not understand the Indian wedding part?!! Red is the colour they wear instead of white for wedding dresses

Yes, I understood perfectly thank you. Other posters were saying that wearing red to a western wedding means you have slept with the groom.

Error404FucksNotFound · 06/08/2026 14:07

Thats the one.

Was that written by the people who sell wedding dresses ?

DoraSpenlow · 06/08/2026 16:07

Oh dear, I wore red to my brother's wedding 45 years ago. To be fair we had probably slept in the same bed at some stage, but not since we were about 3 and 4.

I'm confused. Is there something wrong with wearing a red dress and jewelry to a wedding?

She wore her wedding dress to her cousins wedding!!!

Not me, but years ago, someone I knew was telling me about their own wedding. Families had never met before. Turned out that brides dad had had an affair with grooms mum. Bride married her half brother. They now have two children with severe special needs.

I don’t believe this. “Someone I knew was telling me about their own wedding”. So the bride or the groom told you this?

I was at a wedding where one of the guests decided to do a few lines of coke right before dinner could start (to suppress her appetite apparently) and ended up collapsing right in front of the open buffet; supposedly the coke was laced with something which caused her to have a seizure.

Out of propriety, we were all asked to leave the hall while she received first aid and they waited for the ambulance to arrive but by the time the paramedics got there, stabilised her and got her into the ambulance over an hour had already passed. Then because she had released 3 different types of bodily fluids all over the place, the venue had to do a proper deep clean so it was nearly 2 hours before the hall could be reopened and by that time everyone had left / wandered off into the city centre in search of food as we were all really hungry (word had got back that the buffet was a write off) so that was basically the end of the wedding reception. As the buffet had just been put out when she collapsed right in front of it, the food had to be thrown away due to the risk of contamination from airborne particles so not only did the bride and groom lose all that food / money and miss out on their reception, but they also lost money on a DJ who never got to play, favours that never got given out, a photobooth that went unused and they also had to pay out to meet the minimum payment for the bar. Then the cherry on top of the non cut wedding cake was that they also got given a hefty clean up fee from the venue as well!

That's horrific. Did she at least offer to pay for the cleaning?

hahabahbag · 06/08/2026 14:50

Been to a couple with full on fights, worse was a family wedding in the 80’s when the groom’s brother revealed during the reception he’d slept with the bride only 6 weeks before the wedding cue fighting … that marriage lasted about 3 hours

This would have been in the late 90s so the internet existed but wasn’t used constantly like today, i dont know where they’d got these ideas from tbh but they seemed very sure of themselves, and equally sure that of course everybody knows all the same wedding “rules” as them.

It just depends how superstitious your circle is I think. Or uptight. Or insane.

all internet myths and not recognised wedding customs whatsoever.

Friend asked what colour my bridesmaids would be in. She then turned up in the same colour.
First dance, husbands friend was filming it. My friend and her boyfriend once other couples were invited on the dance floor during the song stood right infront of the camera. Friend doing that fake laughter throwing her head back.
You hear DH friend swear at her and move to keep us in shot.
We didn't even get a card from her !

I have never heard that about red and green (and I’m in my 60s). I can see that it is sensible for a guest not to wear red to an Indian wedding, but otherwise I can’t see a problem.

I seem to remember hearing years ago that it used to be considered unlucky to wear green, but that was only if you were the bride.

Yes, I think they were doing quite a lot of overthinking with that @KarcherK5 !

I get not wearing head to toe black is to not look like you are in mourning, but covered with a bright pattern should be OK. And the cherry thing is just weird ...

I went to a wedding where someone sort of did the opposite of this. The Bride had a close male friend whose GF was apparently threatened by their friendship and made it clear she had always disliked her. She initially refused to come to the wedding, but after her BF fell out with her about it she came but, in a bizarre form of protest, wore faded blue jeans, a baggy chunky-knit jumper that looked like it had seen better days and trainers. Hair scraped back in a messy bun and no make up. This is a woman who was normally very 'put together'.
Looked bizarre in the photos, like the Gardener had accidentally stepped into the shot.

Groom and his best man (also his brother) doing coke in the loos. Groom drags him by his feet onto the dance floor at 9pm. He's in full cardiac arrest screaming for help. Bride is doing cpr. Us bridesmaids try to get all the little kids outside. Ambulance arrives. Blue lights him to hospital. He died. All grooms family leaves the wedding. Police arrive. Shut off the music and place themselves outside the loos. Groom at a table crying. Bride still trying to save her wedding and dance in silence....

That's just dreadful Sad

MrsShawnHatosy · 06/08/2026 14:15

I’ve worn red to two weddings in the past. I had no idea it means you’re the mistress until I joined Mumsnet.

lizzyBennet08 · 06/08/2026 14:11

Have a listen to the two johnies podcast this week. Based in ireland . They has a bride on who on the day she got married recently stood up at the reception and presented a slide show of Dic picks that her new groom had been sending other women... His poor mother. Honestly I'm still not over it..

Married in white, you will have chosen all right.
Married in grey, you will go far away.
Married in black, you will wish yourself back.
Married in red, you’ll wish yourself dead.
Married in blue, you will always be true.
Married in pearl, you’ll live in a whirl.
Married in green, ashamed to be seen.
Married in yellow, ashamed of the fellow.
Married in brown, you’ll live out of town.
Married in pink, your spirits will sink.

Thats the one.
