Well, my story is pretty scandalous. I’m from Indian heritage … a cousin I had not seen for years invited by my family to my wedding - she wore her bloody wedding outfit her glam reception - red outfit - all her freaking jewellery I mean Wtaf and I’m still not over it and it’s been 17 years

I was at a great family wedding where the groom and best man did a (full) full monty on the dance floor. By then I really disliked most of my ex's family so I was laughing almost as hard at their faces as at the stripping.

I also got caught by bride A with my hand down bride Bs top at their wedding. Luckily she knew me well enough to pause and realise we were emergency cleaning a glass of red wine off a white wedding dress but it must have looked terrible when she walked through the door.

I had no idea about this (I’m 60). Now desperately trying to think back and remember if I’d ever worn red.

Oh I did wear a red hat to a close friend’s wedding, does that count? 😱

My now departed grandmother used to have a saying "red hat, no drawers" (knickers), so I think it might do

greenbean80 · 10/08/2026 08:27

Ok I now recall I wore red shoes and a red lippy to a uni friends wedding (male) no I didn’t sleep with him and didn’t know these rules!

You hussy! Grin

Love this thread. I've been to very few weddings and sadly all very tame. The closest I can get to a suitable contribution is a family wedding we didn't attend back in the 1970s. We got a full report later from my aunt, who was there. The hotel had a swimming pool and at least one of my male relatives ended up being chucked into it. Routine stuff for the hotel, I expect.

I went to a friend's wedding. The reception was at a banqueting hall after the religious ceremony. I went to the loo and a couple were at it by the sinks. I went back out and another guest was about to walk in when I said she might want to use the disabled loo instead. She went in and I heard lots of swearing. It was the married uncle of the bride and groom's sister. The guest was the wife (i had no idea). Anyway the swearing and shrieking alerted others who came to see what was going on and there was a punch up in the carpark.

I went to another wedding where the groom was very much laughing and joking on stage but the bride looked disinterested. At one point she walked off stage but she never returned. Someone did announce that the wedding was off. I remember my parents saying we should go but the food had just been served and I proclaimed that I wanted to eat. I was 7, my mum gave me a look and I grabbed a naan to go. We got a chippy tea on the way home and I have fond memories of that day.

There’s are at least two threads on MN which are over 15 years old and a good 7-8 years before TikTok was launched, referencing that red means you’re the mistress/slept with the groom.

Decades ago, I waitressed at weddings in a country renowned for drunken fighty-ness. So many weddings had punch-ups they were barely memorable.

The thing that springs to mind was a dirty old letch who put his hand right up a waitress’s skirt. Unfortunately for him, she was pouring hot coffee at the time and instinctively threw the contents of the jug at him. He ended up in A&E if I recall. Served him right. Even the groom said well done to her.

Yeah, and sometimes people just Google instead of making a fool of themselves 🙄

There is only one person who is making a fool of themselves here.....

You know instead of being rude, just answer and be kind. It's not that hard. Sometimes people just don't know things and that is okay.

My brother tried to call off his wedding to his first wife. He moved out, told her he couldn't go through with it etc, but his future ILs phoned and turned up incessantly, begged and threatened. My brother was young, easily influenced and a bit vulnerable and married her. She cheated on him, got pregnant by her OM and left him. She was also physically abusive and one of the most unkind people I've ever met. His second wife was possibly even worse. Happily, db is unmarried to the loveliest partner who has a similar tale from her first and only marriage.

At my aunt's wedding, her new husband - an unmitigated prick - was so drunk by the time of the first dance that he instead did a full strip tease and tried to do a naked pole dance in the middle of the marquee. It was horrific and my aunt cried and then hid in her room for the rest of the night. There were fireworks at the end of the evening and the groom was passed out under a table and the bride had been absent for 4hrs with various people going in and out of her room trying to console her.

My cousin wore a jumpsuit so tight that you could literally see her labia minora. It didn’t bother me but it looked bloody uncomfortable and lots of people commented on it! 🤣

Laughing so much.
That’s so funny but so awful for her. How could she not realise. Camel toe😂

Your name made me laugh too
@LumpkinPumpkin

Pieceofpurplesky · 08/08/2026 17:31

Not at the wedding but at the hen night the week before the bride met her ex by chance and called off the wedding to rekindle with the ex!

I lived with someone for about a couple of years and his lovely sister was getting married. Didn’t know at the time but turns out my ex BF was a massive sociopath with a bad temper. This creepy dude at the wedding was coming onto me in an awful way, it was not just opportunistic flirting. My BF overheard and punched the guy hard. His sister saw what had happened and just did not react, turned away and carried on the conversation she was having, like she expected it. His parents shrugged it off. Red flag wedding.

The marriage is void regardless. Are they not worried it will be found out and theyll be charged?
Edit sorry just read you dont know much more. Im just really curious.

Edited

I guess not, as she openly brought it up quite randomly to me 🤣
There was a similar case on one of the morning tv chat shows fairly recently .... although they decided not to have children.

Reallyneedsaholiday · 08/08/2026 10:32

Error404FucksNotFound · 07/08/2026 16:42

And they married anyway and went on to have children?

They were already "married" but yes, they stayed together and have two boys. Both with learning difficulties.

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 08/08/2026 10:11

DH and I overheard the mother of the groom just before the wedding telling him it wasn't too late to back out and she would support him no matter what...... Brides father gave a horrendous speech saying he basically didn't like his daughter and he wished he had sent her off with the gypsies, the best man said the groom used to spy on his sister getting undressed. My eyes were out on stalks all day.

I googled it once (my sister's ex married who we thought was his half sister, but it turned out she was just fostered) and yes, it is illegal.

Well even if it’s not illegal, that’s so gross and creepy.

sueelleker · 08/08/2026 07:48

inickedthisname · 07/08/2026 19:25

I thought this was illegal but I don’t want to google “Can you marry your half brother” or anything so I’m just containing my curiosity 😂

They would only be charged if they knew when they married, which they didnt.

…but remaining married and conceiving children?!

No, you can't but in that situation no one would have known as presumably the groom was legally registered as the child of his mother's husband, not her affair partner.

Full exclusions (UK law):

A person cannot marry any of the following relatives:
a child, including an adopted child.
a parent, including an adoptive parent.
a brother or sister, including a half-brother or half-sister.
a parent's brother or sister, including a half-brother or half-sister.
a grandparent.
a grandchild.

AllaMova · 07/08/2026 19:39

When my father got re-married years ago, my sister wore white floor length dress to his wedding.

It was a tad awkward, especially considering that even the bride wasn’t dressed in white…
