Well, my story is pretty scandalous. I’m from Indian heritage … a cousin I had not seen for years invited by my family to my wedding - she wore her bloody wedding outfit her glam reception - red outfit - all her freaking jewellery I mean Wtaf and I’m still not over it and it’s been 17 years

I lived with someone for about a couple of years and his lovely sister was getting married. Didn’t know at the time but turns out my ex BF was a massive sociopath with a bad temper. This creepy dude at the wedding was coming onto me in an awful way, it was not just opportunistic flirting. My BF overheard and punched the guy hard. His sister saw what had happened and just did not react, turned away and carried on the conversation she was having, like she expected it. His parents shrugged it off. Red flag wedding.

The marriage is void regardless. Are they not worried it will be found out and theyll be charged?
Edit sorry just read you dont know much more. Im just really curious.

Edited

I guess not, as she openly brought it up quite randomly to me 🤣
There was a similar case on one of the morning tv chat shows fairly recently .... although they decided not to have children.

And they married anyway and went on to have children?

They were already "married" but yes, they stayed together and have two boys. Both with learning difficulties.

DH and I overheard the mother of the groom just before the wedding telling him it wasn't too late to back out and she would support him no matter what...... Brides father gave a horrendous speech saying he basically didn't like his daughter and he wished he had sent her off with the gypsies, the best man said the groom used to spy on his sister getting undressed. My eyes were out on stalks all day.

I googled it once (my sister's ex married who we thought was his half sister, but it turned out she was just fostered) and yes, it is illegal.

Well even if it’s not illegal, that’s so gross and creepy.

I thought this was illegal but I don’t want to google “Can you marry your half brother” or anything so I’m just containing my curiosity 😂

They would only be charged if they knew when they married, which they didnt.

…but remaining married and conceiving children?!

No, you can't but in that situation no one would have known as presumably the groom was legally registered as the child of his mother's husband, not her affair partner.

Full exclusions (UK law):

A person cannot marry any of the following relatives:
a child, including an adopted child.
a parent, including an adoptive parent.
a brother or sister, including a half-brother or half-sister.
a parent's brother or sister, including a half-brother or half-sister.
a grandparent.
a grandchild.

When my father got re-married years ago, my sister wore white floor length dress to his wedding.

It was a tad awkward, especially considering that even the bride wasn’t dressed in white…

At my first wedding my Scottish relatives were thoroughly drunk and one lifted his kilt just as my nan was walking past him. She grabbed his penis and walked him to the bar by it.

I don't know much more tbh. Just that there was a huge row. They decided not to get an anullment.

A girl I knew changed her mind about getting married but her dad was terminally ill and her mum said "don't tell him just do it" so they did. They spent the night in separate rooms then had the marriage annulled soon after. He died a few weeks later never knowing the truth.

At a friends wedding reception one of the other guests took a shine to the outdoor furniture at the venue. They put two of the wooden patio chairs in their car and drove home. The venue had to call the newlyweds and tell them that the guest had been seen on CCTV stealing them. They were returned.

My face has subtitles ... goodness what those read when she told me about it.

I don’t believe this. “Someone I knew was telling me about their own wedding”. So the bride or the groom told you this?

DancingNotDrowning · Yesterday 16:25

I went to a wedding at a very posh London hotel where two of the guests got absolutely wasted and were practically shagging on a sofa in one of the vestibules outside the main reception area.

they were both married to other people and apparently the bloke had a massive crush on the bride. One of the bridesmaids had to go and physically pull them apart before someone less tolerant caught them at it.

Saddest story ever. I work in a building that has a registry office in it. Wedding was going on upstairs. Then we heard sirens and a lot of commotion. Bride and groom decided to get married after years of living together as groom had a terminal illness. Sadly he took a heart attack before the vows and was pronounced dead at scene.

So sad - but in those tragic circumstances perhaps it’s consoling that he died in a moment of happiness and fulfilment.☹️

I didn't know about wearing red to a wedding. What should I think in this situation.
My Mother in law wore red to our son's wedding. I hope it was ok as I wore Pink.

inickedthisname · Yesterday 14:24

theemmadilemma · Yesterday 13:14

Not if it's RED.

Even the link you provided said that.

Yeah this is the thing @Ansells. Indian weddings are usually big events with lots of days of celebrations. So you might buy a lehenga and wear it to the event that’s for the families to meet and blessings etc. but you wouldn’t be wearing all the stuff you wear to the actual marriage ceremony. So it’d be a ‘wedding lehenga’ but you could wear it again, if that makes sense.

But, you wouldn’t (unless you’re like the women who have turned up to others western weddings in a white lace gown with a train) turn up wearing your actual red and gold wedding clothes and all your wedding jewellery (which, again, is specific). If you do that, it’s weird and Op is right to think so! I have only known one person to do this and she is pretty nuts (and was clearly bitter that she wasn’t the one getting married!)
