To not tell her parents?

foreverornever · 05/08/2026 18:45

Dd(15) had some friends stay over last night, they all helped one of the friends (also 15 but turning 16 in a month) sneak her boyfriend in and they ended up sleeping together.

Dd is obviously in trouble for lying, younger dc saw teen boy in our house which scared them. Friend has apologised, has promised that they used protection and pleaded with me not to tell her parents.

I don’t know her parents well and she is basically 16 so I do feel like it’s something that she should get to tell them only if she wants to and not my place to do so but then obviously I was supposed to be responsible for her last night.

If it was my daughter I would probably want to know but I wouldn’t expect to be told in this situation by other parents.

WIBU to not tell them?

Condoms aren't infallible and don't protect against all stds. If it were my child I'd want to be sure there was no pregnancy

You said “I highly doubt they were properly protected…from pregnancy and all the other harms”

But there’s no reason to make a such a strong assumption that teenagers aren’t aware of STIs and how to avoid pregnancy- most are well educated about it and definitely want to avoid these things. By all means check with your own child but don’t assume they’re clueless.

No. FGS you do not understand the law and you have such a punitive view that I'm concerned you need to step away here.

If you want the correct law term then he "
committed the offence of "sexual activity of a child"

Statutory rape is more a U.S. term.

I'm not being punitive. I'm just saying what it could legally be classed as so ok, not "rape" by definition, but the offence quoted above.

I don't need to step away, thanks though! 😂

Dramatic but true : If he is 16 you let a paedophile into your house to rape a minor

In reality. : id let the parents know the boy sneaked in - let them work out and ask out the rest for themselves

Go and have a cup of sweet tea 🙄

Sexual activity is illegal between a 16 year old and an under 16. The under 16 cannot legally give consent, so it is factually rape.

Factually you are talking bollocks.

x2boys · 06/08/2026 19:14

YourKeenMauveJoker · 06/08/2026 19:07

An under 16 can't legally consent, ergo rape.

No an under 13 cant consent so it would be automatic rape
The law recognises that some 13 -15 year oldss do have sex and and whilst its illegal its sex with a minor
And as they are so close in age
The polce wouldnt seek to prosecute.

IndigoBluey · 06/08/2026 19:11

You need to tell her parents. It’s the right thing to do and also an offence has been committed whilst she was under your duty of care. Im
not sure you’re grasping the seriousness of the situation. I imagine the other parents will find out too so I would tell them too.

You were a good teen. Me too. My Mom knew I was not a wild teenager so she didn't have very strict rules. No need to.

You were very considerate of your parents. Do you maintain that close relationship with them as an adult?

Yes, and my DH was/is the same.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/08/2026 19:08

YourKeenMauveJoker · 06/08/2026 18:49

So he raped her then.

Dependsoncontext · 06/08/2026 19:08

I can see how this happened - I used to hate having sleepovers for this very reason i.e. someone does something stupid that you are responsible for. You do have to tell the parents though. I personally wouldn't tell all the parents, just the parents of the girl in question. You've just got to make that call as best you can and face any consequences but from my perspective I can see how if husband and me were sat in our back garden, random teenager is helped to climb in at the front of the house, we would have been none the wiser too. Good luck.

YourKeenMauveJoker · 06/08/2026 19:07

x2boys · 06/08/2026 18:55

She consented so it wasent rape
It was sex with a minor
As there is only 3 months between them and it was consensusal nothing will be done
The law is too protect children from being abused by adults not punish two similarly aged teens.

An under 16 can't legally consent, ergo rape.

Which brings me back to the various hiding places available, and how scheming kids can be, so helicoptering over nearly 16 year olds would achieve absolutely nothing.

Maybe op could have read them all a story?

I can just imagine my daughter’s reaction if I’d insisted on looking under her bed for young men hiding ready to pounce as soon as I’d left the room 😆

FlamingoFloss · 06/08/2026 19:02

Savvysix1984 · 05/08/2026 18:54

I would tell the parent that they snuck a boy in and think their daughter spent the night with him and suggest they speak to their dc about the specifics. I prob wouldn’t say they had sex as I’d leave the daughter tell them.

This

Megifer · 06/08/2026 19:01

ClassActress · 06/08/2026 18:34

She could have (and should have) been checking in on them regularly. If you’re going to allow “sleepovers” at that age, you have to keep a close eye on them or else don’t do it. That age is the most dangerous time to take your eye off the ball and that’s exactly what op did.

This thread is getting truly ridiculous. The girl concerned is almost 16, from what the OP has said, she and her friends sneaked the girl’s boyfriend, who is just 16, into the house and they had sex. There is no information to indicate whether this was the first time or if theyre generally at it like rabbits whenever they can. To call the boy a paedophile and suggest thst he raped the girl is bizarre.

Isnt it just
I mean legally the same girl could have sex with a 50 year old man in four weeks and no laws would be broken.

KilkennyCats · 06/08/2026 19:00

Megifer · 06/08/2026 18:56

I wasn't comparing the situations. My comment was aimed at those who were suggesting they'd be able to stop their DC being sly.

I really dont know how posters cant seem to imagine how this could have happened. Have none of you seen the various layouts of different homes widely available?

Unless the guests had exclusive use of the east wing, then op should certainly be aware of who is and who isn’t on the premises.
Especially when she’s invited other people’s children to stay.

Growlybear83 · 06/08/2026 19:00

KilkennyCats · 06/08/2026 18:57

Well, this…
How could you not notice?

As the OP has said, she was a terrible, irresponsible parent who dared to sit in her back garden on a very hot summer’s evening while the boy sneaked into the house, presumably through the front door.

Rhaidimiddim · 06/08/2026 19:00

foreverornever · 05/08/2026 20:13

He is 16 by 2 months.

His parents need to know, too.

Blueblell · 06/08/2026 18:59

Yes another for telling the parents they snuck a boy in without your knowledge. Then let them discuss the rest with their daughter.

Dont be uttelrly ridiculous
Clearly you dont know whst a paedophile id
Hint its not a 16 year old boy having consenual sex with a girl three months younger than him
Paedophiles are attracted to pre pubescent children .

Wow, the hysteria here is unbelievable. It is honestly shocking to hear "rape" be thrown around so obsessively. People seem to be losing their minds over this.

I think I’d be concerned if someone managed to enter my property at night without me noticing!

Well, this…
How could you not notice?

Megifer · 06/08/2026 18:56

pepperminticecream · 06/08/2026 18:08

That is a completely different situation. To not know what is happening in your own home is negligent. To have other peoples children over for a sleepover and to not supervise or notice that another person as entered the home is again, negligent. This happened because OP daughter knows her parents are lax and that she/her friends could get away with it.

I wasn't comparing the situations. My comment was aimed at those who were suggesting they'd be able to stop their DC being sly.
