To not tell her parents?

foreverornever · 05/08/2026 18:45

Dd(15) had some friends stay over last night, they all helped one of the friends (also 15 but turning 16 in a month) sneak her boyfriend in and they ended up sleeping together.

Dd is obviously in trouble for lying, younger dc saw teen boy in our house which scared them. Friend has apologised, has promised that they used protection and pleaded with me not to tell her parents.

I don’t know her parents well and she is basically 16 so I do feel like it’s something that she should get to tell them only if she wants to and not my place to do so but then obviously I was supposed to be responsible for her last night.

If it was my daughter I would probably want to know but I wouldn’t expect to be told in this situation by other parents.

WIBU to not tell them?

Just to let everyone know I have spoken to the girls mum.

All is fine, no assault took place and nobody needs to phone the police. They’re just two teenagers, three months apart being teenagers.

My younger child is also fine, they were scared to see someone they didn’t expect and came to tell us straight away which is exactly what we want them to do, they are not permanently traumatised by seeing a teenage boy in our house.

Obviously it’s easy to think your teens don’t lie to you or sneak behind your back if you’ve never caught them. A lot of the parents judging here don’t know exactly what there teenagers are up to.

dd is in trouble and I have spoken to her about it a lot since but she’s not going to be excessively punished just given less trust for the time being. Her and her friend didn’t have to own up and tell me exactly what had happened because I thought he was on his way in not his way out. I’m disappointed they lied and broke the rules in the first but I’m glad they felt they could immediately fess up and were willing to apologise and talk about it sensibly.

Thankyou for the helpful replies.

Go away with your sensible reaction! 😵‍💫🫣😫😭😖😐🙄

Some of these replies are actually insane!
Nobody is a paedophile, there’s 3 months between them, nothing is going to magically happen to her mind or body in the next 20 something days that hasn’t already.

And actually at this age girls are both more physically and emotionally mature than boys as we start and finish puberty earlier.

I’ve admired your restraint throughout this thread OP as many responses have been utterly unhinged.

Err as her parent yes I would want to know. She is not 16 yet and yes it is a bloody big deal. Are you for real?

Her parents already know everthings fine nobody is trying too suggest its rape or paedophilloa hth

I would tell the parent that they snuck a boy in and think their daughter spent the night with him and suggest they speak to their dc about the specifics. I prob wouldn’t say they had sex as I’d leave the daughter tell them.

This!

Also, OP, where were the other friends when this was happening??

CalmBalonz · Yesterday 22:19

You calm down!

No. She gave the key to her sister (my best friend’s mum) who let us have a party that afternoon.
No idea why you’re so bothered by something a stranger did 35 years ago. I even kept a diary, if you’re interested!

Just that some info being posted doesn't sound plausible. I find when some stuff doesn't ring true I'm less inclined to believe anything else that gets posted.
Still, when people are covered by the anonymity of these sites they can say anything I suppose.

So you are telling us that "my best friend’s auntie let us use her house for a birthday get together".
So she went away and gave the house keys to a bunch of unsupervised 14 year olds to have a party? Really ? That's about as likely as me flying to Mars solo and an engineering degree that's been concocted to prove a point.

She is not 16 yet!

Calm down everythings fine the Op has told the parents
Nobody is going to be marching the boy down to the police for him to be prosecuted
Not that they would anyway.

ChaiLou · Yesterday 15:35

x2boys · Yesterday 07:29

Basically you are talking nonsense
Its sex with a minor
And as the age gap is just 3 months and it was consensual the police wouldnt prosecute
The law is there to pprotect children being abused by adults not to punish to similarly aged teens.

Agree

She is not 16 yet!

She is in a couple of weeks.

Do you really think that 'under age' is such a big deal?
It's not as if she was groomed or the man was older. It was a boy her own age.

CalmBalonz · Yesterday 15:31

CalmBalonz · Yesterday 15:30

You need to tell them she is underage.

x2boys · Yesterday 07:30

This.
kids talk and soon everyone in the year will know this happened. Another parent will 100% hear and tell her parents… so you need to be the one telling them

She has HTH.

Agree -' basically 16 while 15' - no, no no. She is 15 - underage. A child was 'technically raped' in your house, while under your supervision..
I don't blame you for not knowing what to do - you didn't 'arrange',or agree to this - but come on - tell her parents now, have that conversation, also with you DD about how wrong this is. (May have missed it, sorry, but how old is the boy?).

It couldn't be more obvious from OP's that she didn't 'let' them🙄

but yes, OP, you should tell their parents. Imagine how annoyed they'll be if they find out at a later stage.

She isnt 'basically 16' - she is 15!
How did this happen on your watch?
I have a 15 year old and there would be no way that a guy would be in my house with any the children.

I like to think my kids would tell me or at least feel comfortable to do it in my house and I definitely think there’s wider issues with this kid but realistically OP is putting herself in a very risky position if she conceals this.

Unless it’s a risk of abuse from the child’s parents I just think she needs to tell. This kid is saying she was safe but there’s no way to verify it, she could be pregnant, the boys parents could find out and tell - there’s too many ways the kids parents could find out.

I think there’s a difference between covering something up and honouring a plea for confidentiality.

If this girl got knocked up, there would be much bigger concerns than exactly
where the deed took place. As it’s unlikely to be the only time, who’s to say which occasion resulted in pregnancy.

What that's got to do with the price of fish ?

Plenty of posters have been talking about teenagers, ages of having sex. I meant to quote someone, sorry

littlebowpeepscrook · 07/08/2026 17:58

Arran2024 · 07/08/2026 15:41

Apparently average age of "losing virginity" in the Uk is 17 but one third do so before age 16.

What that's got to do with the price of fish ?

You need to tell your DD that for her part in this, there will be no more sleep overs! Lay out the implications on you. You were the responsiible adult and your DD has put you in a hell of a position over this. She not a baby she must know she did wrong. You absolutely need to tell the girls mum/ parents. It will come out anyway. If you dont say what happens , when it does get out, you and your home will be labeled. Let's hope they did use protection.

She has told the parents .
