About 3 months ago I had a deep clean at the dentist where he (quite roughly) cleaned my teeth with a sharp tool and especially around a partially erupted wisdom tooth on my lower right side. It was uncomfortable after this and about a week later I was back at the dentist as the area around my wisdom tooth had swollen and was very painful. It was pericoronitis. I’ve only ever had this once before about 10 years ago. The dentist cleaned the area again and gave me a week of antibiotics which did the trick and the area calmed down. In fact in the months since it happened it feels like the flap has shrunk right back to smaller than it was to begin with.
Over the past week however I feel like it is maybe a little swollen again. Nothing like what it was like before and I have been probing a lot with my tongue which probably hasn’t helped. The thing is we go on holiday on Saturday and I’m always very anxious about getting sick while away and I’m really working myself up over it all. Could this be the start of pericoronitis again even without severe pain or swelling? I’m so worried about flaring up while I’m abroad. We are only going to Mallorca so hopefully I’d be able to see a dentist anyway but it’s just not what you want to be worrying about on holiday.
