Trying to cover all bases. I’m not talking the “oh yeah I whack a teabag in my baggage”, i’m talking the type of stuff most people would never dream of taking.

If I am going to somewhere I am not sure of safety wise, I always pack a rubber door stop. I use it to wedge the hotel door closed. Its very difficult to push thd door open with it in place especially on any type of carpet

Dangerous if there is a fire and nobody can get to you

I always take a carbon monoxide detector! 4.99 on amazon. One of the biggest causes of deaths abroad.

Everyone I tell laughs and then quietly buys their own. Im saving the world one detector at a time!

I wish I had this idea before!! We had carbon monoxide poisoning at a chalet in the French alps. Apparently is not mandatory in France to have a detector when you rent your property... it was really scary, specially because I was pregnant at the time and we had several kids with us. We were lucky that it wasn't worse !

My friend packs twice as many outfits as she plans to wear, just in case. Just in case of what, I'm not sure.

I'm a light packer and I'm reading this thread with my jaw firmly on the ground.

I never take enough clothes, underwear being a particular one. Packing makes me really angry for some reason so i solve that by not packing much. I hate the thought of packing something, having it on a hanger for a week putting it back in the bag, unpacking it. Just better not to take it in my opinion, cut out the faff.

I think we have a member of the Royal Family on here today, they do that apparently. When G6 died and his daughter became E2 she had someone take black clothes to the airport for their return and Churchill etc had to wait on the tarmac until she changed in the aircraft, since then something black is always packed.

As for weird stuff my ;ate OH always packed a do-it-yourself emergency tooth filling kit, as well as the M.A.S.H he seemed to pack.

Always take a handful of dishwasher tablets if er are going self-catering. Places never leave enough and while you can buy them anywhere, you then need to lug most of an unused packet home or leave them behind (and they are expensive!)

I feel like the size of first aid kit I take on holiday with me might be verging on the unhinged, but I like to be prepared! If one of my family has a serious accident whilst suffering from terrible diarrhea and back pain, I'll be ready for it!

Me too, and I insist my daughter takes one too, her friends laugh but better be prepared than without

Yes, they can take it off you and give you a ticking off. A fine would only be likely if you had large amounts l would think.

Currently on our last day of a UK break with DD 15 & her best mate- they mocked my first aid kit when we arrived but have availed themselves of the paracetamol, ibrofen gel, sports tape for random injuries and the spray-on plaster....I feel vindicated!
I always pack a USB extension cord, teabags and marmite. DD is Audhd and marmite is one of her 100% safe foods so comes everywhere with me!
When going abroad we always pack a day's worth of clothes inc swimwear in hand luggage after an unfortunate incident involving our cases arriving 4 days after we did on a break in the Greek islands!
Have just ordered a carbon monoxide detector so thats added for our next break x

I take all the medicine in my house. Just because it's already in a locked box and so it's easier to pack the box than sort out what we might and might not need. Otherwise I think I'm fairly normal.

I bring an entire medical assortment for every eventuality. I bring toilet rolls, tea, mugs (because they are never big enough anywhere else) a penknife etc. but where it gets bad is that within 4 suitcases everybody has to have some stuff, in case one person's case goes missing. The logistics and organisation are horrific. I can't stop myself. Yet every single time, nothing is used.

Same. It's rare for anyone to admit this kind of thing on MN because everyone else takes a tiny rucksack for a month with one pair of spare pants.

Always take paracetamol... I had to wait in a huge pharmacy queue to be charged £7 for a packet in Croatia last year.
Last year I went on holiday during a rheumatoid arthritis flare and I was taking Max dose paracetamol. I badly miscalculated how many I needed and had to buy gold plated Spanish ones.

If it was raw beef, you are lucky not to have been stopped by customs. Raw foods and dairy cannot lawfully be imported into the EU from UK.

Don't you need an actual full-on plug for a CPAP machine, though? Maybe you can recharge them - I'm fortunate enough never to have needed one - but would you want to risk it running out of charge overnight?

I don’t get why people WOULDNT taken an extension lead. With so many things needing charging these days, it makes perfect sense.
