To ask for your most unhinged packing lists?

Yeah but I don't own a charging block, I do own lots of multiplug adaptors. Works for me.

I took my Tassimo machine to an air BnB a few years ago

I find that the charging block pulls the adapter out of the US/Canada socket as they tend to be loose, sometimes with just two straight pins.

Am I missing something? I've stayed in lots of places that do not offer USB sockets.

I have a couple of multiple usb chargers which have interchangeable plug plates which can swap from uk to Europe
As all the things I take charge by USB. Phone, Kindle, iPod, fitness tracker and earbuds

The hairdryer and straighteners make sense. Not something that I ever pack, but I get that one.

I don’t get the laptop or phone though. A charging block with USB C PD will fast charge my laptop without a single issue. I don't think I actually even have a charger for my laptop… I am sure I dumped it straight into the big plastic box full of chargers nobody wants in the IT office at work when I picked the laptop up.

I think our charging station is a ugreen one. It charges all of our devices including laptops at home and then the power cable just switches out for an EU or US/Japan one when we go abroad. It takes up so much less space than taking a load of adapters or a multiway plug.

I take my phone and often my laptop if travelling for work, wouldn't charge either of these via USB alone. I have straighteners and a hairdryer. That's your 4 plugs.

We tend to do euro camp style holidays. They last one didn't have USB sockets. We charge 2 phone and maybe a tablet for the DC if it needs to be charged before flying + headphones. I also bring the baby camera, we stay in 2 bed lodges so I can have the monitor in the sitting room/ balcony when the DC go to bed.

I started bringing one when I was a backpacker on Oz/ Asia when I had phone charger/ laptop charger/ straightener and who knows what else!

Never heard of this but just ordered some as it sounds very useful.

I’m really curious as to what you are plugging into them. I don’t even take a plug adapter abroad with me anymore because nothing I take on holiday with me has a uk plug on it. Everything goes through a charging block nowadays.

What are people taking on holiday with them that isn’t now charged by some sort of USB?

Beyond perhaps a pair of hair straighteners or hairdryer, I’m genuinely struggling to think of what a person would travel with that would require a U.K. style plug socket at all, let alone 4 them.

I only take 1, with 4 sockets. It weighs I'd guess 300grams

Box of cereal/sweets for snacking in the room, granola bars/breakfast biscuits for if going out exploring.
Immodium and rehydration tablets in the medical bag.
Then just the usual - painkillers/anti histamine/ bite cream/ mozzie spray/heartburn medicine/plasters/germoline.
I also take lightweight towels from Decathlon as even if i don’t need them they work very well pegged to a parasol to add more shade.
Towel pegs/bands to stop them
blow in the breeze.

How heavy are these extension leads? Aren’t they weighty? And are these for flights abroad?

I haven't seen it mentioned, but after seeing loads of Germans with these on our holiday last year I am bringing some. Seem very handy for storing 'stuff' (toys/ suncream/ all those things that end up on the table)

I think it sounds awful . And the only time I go to a hotel is if I’m holidaying with a friend . Having read on MN that such hotels exist I’m now scrutinising website photos and reading reviews to check anywhere I’m booking has standard facilities.

If we’re taking the car & self catering I always pack my butter dish. It’s one of those insulated ones and keeps butter at just the right temp. I also take an apron any time we’re self catering…even abroad.

My husband keeps emergency vinegar in the car. Abroad he makes do with balsamic.
We take some clothes wash Abroad. To remove balsamic stains from clothes.

I have read the entire thread, and haven’t seen this one. I take vinegar (as well as ketchup, which I can see someone else does too) when holidaying in the UK. I don’t want to know how long any ketchup that might be in the Airbnb has been there and I hate having to go and find a supermarket just to buy ketchup for the chips! Fish and chips naturally being the UK summer holiday essential.

if you’re going abroad, be really careful with all this medication! For example, there is lots of stuff which are highly prohibited substances in Japan that we can just buy without even going to the pharmacy. Always check! And if you do go to Japan, ignore anything called a pharmacy and go to the medication part of a department store. Pharmacies over there will try and sell you herbal nonsense, you can get eg loperimide in a Japanese department store medicine section (though it will be a much weaker strength than in the uk).

Another one I completely forgot about- grab rails. My DM and myself have balance issues when getting in/out bath (shower over bath) and slippery afterwards. Some hotels have no grab rails or badly placed

I gave my daughter some carbon monoxide detector stickers when she went travelling for a year. Not unhinged at all. They don’t sound an alarm but change colour. I knew she would refuse an actual alarm, but a few stickers … No idea if she used them but it made me feel better about her going
