Hotel pool etiquette.

New job. HQ based in Hong Kong. First work trip to HK where I would meet many of my new colleagues.
All good. Fancy hotel.
On the first evening I thought I'd use the pool. Went down with my robe over my swim suit.
On getting back to my room (all straggly with wet hair and already looking a bit wretched with jet lag), I realise I'd locked myself out.
So I got the lift all the way down to reception only to find most of my new colleagues had all arrived at the same time to check in. Errr hello.....I'm the highly professional, skilled woman whose just joined the company. It was fine (informal, academia), but still not quite the first impression I wanted to make.

I do still go down with gown over, but ALWAYS check I have my key.

Then there's the story of the broken flip flop - ever tried walking with the toe post broken on your flip flop?

On the rare occasions I have stayed in a posh hotel with a spa the etiquette seems to be if the pool is close to the rooms ie in the same building or close by - use a room / spa robe and the little slippers they will not doubt have provided to go to and fro from the swimming pool and your room. Don't lounge around in the bar / restaurant in them 😂 (I know you wouldn't just overstating my point)

Yes I just put the gown on over my costume then walk/get the lift to the pool area. Same on the way back.
