Will late August still be full on families?

Due to leave arrangements at work DH and I can only take leave from the 27 August.

It’s the first time in years we have been that close to school holidays. Will it still be full of kids/families or will most be getting set for return to school?

To add nothing against kids/school holidays and used to holidaying when preschoolers are around (mid September) but have never been away late August.

Will still be full on with families until the schools go back (most don’t go back till 7th September round here).

Yes I'd say so, most aren't back until at least 2nd or 3rd of September so there will still be loads of families away.

Round here back to school is about the 2nd so I reckon it will be the very tail end of the family holiday season

but I gather you won’t be holidaying in north west England

less families than earlier in August I’d say but still plenty about. I’ve found in the past that September is peak preschoolers season so not necessarily a lot better

We return from our family holiday 30th August, if you're away 2wks it should certainly be a lot quieter on the 2nd week.

We've often been away for that last week in August and there have been fewer school age children towards the end of the week (many go back to school on the 2nd September so seem go home that weekend before). However the number of pre-schoolers started to increase to make up for it!

If you can I'd second an adult-only hotel or a resort with an adult section. Although lots of adults on holiday are equally annoying!

They go back in about 10 days in Scotland if you wanted a break up here. Otherwise most places like Cornwall, will probably still be pretty busy!

It's one of the busiest fortnight's of the summer because of the Bank Holiday.

Maybe try Sweden! Beautiful weather at that time of year (Stockholm archipelago is gorgeous) and schools already back by late Aug.

Thanks all - I realised I posted this in AIBU for some daft reason! It would be abroad - Balearics or Greece. From France so that’s out and know rentree is early Sept then and as in North West however glorious it is will be hoping to get some sea and sand (less so kids) Adult only option sounds perfect - thanks again

I always go away with the BH Mondays the middle Weds to Weds usually. I have to do school holidays as working one!!!

i go then because I find from the weekend and over BH it quietens down - a lot!

It’s also always the cheapest time for school holiday holidays IME and I think that reflects the fewer number of families travelling then.

Yes of course it will be. Many parents save money by going away back end of August and the kids miss the first couple days back at school. We’ve done it before, it’s pretty common.
