Yes, crime figures have gone down, not up. People should check evidence before making bold statements.

What has changed is that we hear so much more frequently and more quickly about anything that does happen thanks to 24-hour newsfeeds, social media etc.

There needs to be massive crackdown on crime in this country because it is getting Out Of Control.

We should stop housing violent offenders from overseas i dont get how when you pass your driving test you can have conditions put on it like hey caught speeding within two years you lose your licence but cant make the right to remain linked to good behaviour

"Im fleeing from persecution so im going to commit violent crimes in the country that's helping me" why do we not bounce them out for that because they cant be that scared or they would behave themselves

First of all, surely manslaughter wouldn’t qualify someone to be released early ?

Secondly, surely it would also take into account the offenders behaviour in prison ? They didn’t show any remorse and are laughing whilst going to court?

Surely the fact they’ve shown no remorse should also go against them ?

While it is true that all victims matter and no individual life is inherently worth more than another, an attack on a police officer isn't just a crime against an individual. They're enforcers of the law so an attack on them is also an attack on the system of law and order.

I don’t see why any prisoner being considered for early release should be treated differently because their victim was a policeman. All victims matter. The police administer the law, not make it. I’m not saying that PC Harper’s sad death is unimportant-just that it isn’t extra important.

@pearlbuttonsLocking multiple prisoners up together might not cause riots but they’d definitely end up killing each other. It’s far too complex than just triple bunks, bang up 24/7 ,sanctions on non compliance, cutting communications apart from legal teams; it’s all been tried & tested but nothing works.

If we lived in a decent society there wouldn't be violent thugs killing police officers and laughing about it.

As I said, it’s a good thing rudeness doesn’t carry a prison sentence. My thoughts are entirely coherent, you just don’t agree with them.

Don't you think they should serve their sentences first?
If the 2 men mentioned by the OP were from another country would you be fine about them going home without serving their sentence?

@OonaStubbs You do realise the prisoners being considered for release were charged with manslaughter and did not get a life sentence. They were not charged with murder.

That said, my dad is geriatric and can process thoughts so maybe it is nothing to do with your age and more to do with...fluffiness!

As I say, I hope that you and yours do not become a victim of the thugs that will now wander at will , emboldened by their early release but I repeat, and I urge you to fire up those brain cells and imagine this, it's as sure as the sunrise every morning that someone will.

Sure, they could smash up their cells individually. Well let them! What are they going to do? Break up their own stuff...carry on and sleep on the floor. Who cares! No prison officer goes near them.

Overcrowding means violence and riots. Life’s hard enough for prison officers as it is without intentionally creating conditions to make it more dangerous for them.
