A male colleague has posted a photo of his wife and their 4 young kids (all under 8 or so) he's put '4 kids, and she's still got a great figure!' Maybe I'm reading into too much but I find it a bit off?

OP posts:
Bikergran · 04/08/2026 18:06

Most women don't recover their original body shape after kids. Either his wife is very lucky or she's worked really hard to get back in shape. I think he's complimenting her, making a nice remark. I realise this will bring a lot of self-righteous MN indignation down on me, but that's my gut feeling.

I’d find that weird. If that was my partner I’d ask him why he’s put that. It’s unnecessary and would make me uncomfortable. Maybe a post about him saying he’s 45 and still got most of his hair.

Hair loss is not something men can prevent, so it's hardly the same thing.

5128gap · 04/08/2026 18:24

Well if I was his wife I'd be cringing myself inside out at him making a show of me in such a smug, reductive manner. Because one, I don't go in for public boasting. Two, I don't think your partners figure is something to boast about. Three I'd rather be praised for something that mattered.
However, not all women agree. If this pleased her then it would be nothing to do with me or my life.

Comeonelieen · 04/08/2026 18:32

Well it shows what his priorities are I guess.

JHound · 04/08/2026 18:34

I would find it weird as I find it really weird when men brag about their wives bodies like this (seems very shallow - like their priorities are her looks).

But not my circus, not my monkeys.

Not triggered anything, I don't have kids. Just found it a bit chauvinistic.

It is chauvinistic. What a twat.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 04/08/2026 18:42

It’s complimentary , and it doesn’t mean that’s all he compliments about her. I think it’s her place to decide if it’s ok or not. Not yours or anyone else’s.

i can’t see why you’re taking issue, do you like him?

Sartre · 04/08/2026 18:42

This is giving Jamie Laing vibes. Didn’t he come under immense fire for posting pics of his wife a few weeks postpartum skinny as a rake with a similar caption? Definitely something about her figure. I think it’s a bit crass, yes but I wouldn’t feel offended.

Don’t be daft it’s not chauvinistic. A woman can post her husband has a great body. He’s simply saying after the trauma of growing and birthing 4 kids she still looks great, I’d say that to a female friend, and I’m a woman.

MyLimeGuide · 04/08/2026 18:43

Its a bit pathetic to post this on social media IMO. Does he want people to comment on his post about how hot is wife is??

Comeonelieen · 04/08/2026 18:32

Edited

Why you think it means his marriage is simokh about her body, there is no love, no cooarenting, no shared values, just this. Bit of a leap, no?

Work forum - inappropriate, call it out. Personal/ social media - gross but ignore

This ^

Almost implying most women would look like trash after 4 kids?

No, you’re reading too much into it.

It’s a rather crass comment to make on social media but it’s not attacking any other women.

I think your response to this comment is the leap of all leap responses!

Of course it is. It's basically saying that the most important thing of this woman having 4 kids is that her husband thinks she is still hot.

FFS.

HollyhocksandPeons · 04/08/2026 21:41

No mean feat, honestly. If she is proud to show off like that, why not? None of anybody's business? Surely the photo was taken and posted with her consent, not surreptitiously?

Right as you know he’s never posted anything else about her, never complimented her on anything else, never told her he loves anything else about her

you know this? Or you’re talking nonsense. Got to be one.

FaceEatingLeopard · 04/08/2026 22:16

YABU. This is the very definition of ‘nothing else to worry about’.

mondaytosunday · 04/08/2026 22:17

If I was his wife I’d be pissed off. Totally inappropriate, particularly in a work space.

Funchythesnowwoman · 04/08/2026 22:23

@mondaytosunday
The op hasn’t said where he posted it.

Flyingdolphins · 05/08/2026 07:16

It would give me the ick to be honest but it's not my husband. After four kids there must be some other achievements/things to be proud of beyond just what she looks like. However if it was just a holiday picture I guess that wasn't the point of the post.

JacknDiane · 05/08/2026 07:20

Jesus , it sounds like a 2 sentence post hes made, do we really need everything he admires her for written there?
@Pleasenomorespiders get a life, seriously.

How does a pregnant women prevent things such as her abs separating, a 3rd degree tear, a prolapse, feet or hips widening?

Chauvinistic, or just stating a fact?

Chauvinistic.

Imagine if I posted my DH and said "still looks good even though he's 50" - Compliments with an element of "still x despite y" verge on negging.

It's also just really weird to tell your friends and family that your wife has a hot bod. I already assume you are attracted to your wife... Is it important that other people acknowledge your wife's fuckability?? 😂
