My Pet Peeve- birthday "chapters" whats yours

Am I being unreasonable (AIBU)?

I KNOW this is one of those things that mean nothing in the grand scheme of things, but it really "irks" me.

When people say/write in cards/post on social media "Chapter 40" at their 40th birthdays (or whatever age).

The day you turn 40, you are now in chapter 41!

You are not entering chapter 40; you entered that at 39. 🙄

Why does this annoy me so much? 😅

Same when people write "draws" instead of "drawers." Like nails on a blackboard.

I have so many peeves and haven’t RTFT but mine is people writing “he’s” for “his”, or the other way round.

It’s absolutely wild and I can’t understand where it’s come from.

I will admit to having referred to one birthday as a level - but in my defense it was 42 and I cant resist a 80s band inspired pun.

People who can't spell or punctuate or use grammar correctly. Especially "a lot" written as one word and "myself" and "yourself" when they mean me or you. Oh, and "free reign" for rein.

People who go around clutching their phones at all times like a toddler with a teddy.

People in clothes that don't quite cover their backsides.

People playing music out loud in public.

I’ve never seen the chapters thing, but agree it sounds annoying.

I hate when people post on Facebook “the boy done good”. It would be annoying whatever he’d done, but it’s even more annoying because generally it’s just that their completely useless husband has managed to buy a bunch of flowers, or cook a very underwhelming looking meal. She’s doesn’t get public praise for cooking every other bloody night.

I really loathe the following:

”Brilliant walk with ‘this one’ today” or “Could not be prouder of ‘this one’ today in her gymnastics exam.”

I have only noticed this lately. It's when people refer to the ground as the floor. Why? If they drop something outside they say they have dropped something on the floor. No just no

Similarly, people saying roof when they mean ceiling. Good grief.

Describing something as 'triggering' to express a mild dislike/discomfort. Even worse when used to try to get out of a task they don't enjoy at work.

'Different to' also really irritates me when people say it, although I know a lot of people do. 'Different than' is even worse. I know these ones are me being pedantic though!

Mine is the pseudo American 'cool' speak as in.... a) Can I get a coffee? or b) Can I grab a coffee?
a) What's wrong with ' Can I have a coffee?' Using get means you are going to fetch it yourself.
b) Grab it and hopefully it will spill all over you and burn your bits.

ive never heard that but my pet hate is living my best life. Or kid is devastated when they have lost something. No they are sad or angry. You are devastated after an actual disaster or a death

Sadly ‘could I get’ appears to be doing replaced with ‘I’m going to do’ e.g. I’m going to do the beef. Who knew that could get more annoying!

The clapping a pilot thing - on a recent flight to the UK from Germany, what sounded like one lone person clapped after we landed. Somehow it seemed much worse than nobody clapping - it seemed to highlight that the rest of us were unappreciative bastards who should have been allowed to plumit to our collective doom.

Luckily, I don't suppose the pilot could hear it, so I don't suppose they thought anything either way.

My issue with phrases like these is I'll start out by adopting them ironically as a way to annoy and embarrass my children. But I'll then say them so much that I don't always notice the shift into just using the phrase in ordinary language, no kids present.

I like a misprounounced word, I think it's endearing. I love the singular use "a red lip" in fashion, it's camp and fun. I don't like " can I get/grab a cappuccino " cos it's rude. Funny buggers humans.

Journeys is definitely one - especially “weight loss journey”, which I assume is diet and exercise.

But the ultimate is “love language” - anyone using that term is truly beyond irritating, up there with people who leave voicenotes.
