Does anyone else feel wired and can’t sleep after socialising?

I’ve always thought I was an introvert, especially as I’ve got older I don’t socialise all that much. I’m married with teen children, I have one good friend who I’ve known for 20 years, I’m very close with my family and that’s enough.

It’s a weird one though because I do love chatting to people but I get really overstimulated. I’ve been doing a lot more socialising recently through one thing or another and I always find that afterwards I’m very overstimulated.

I get kind of wired and I’ll keep replaying all the things people have said to me, I tend to find people share things with me, it could be for example about a relationship breakdown and I’ll keep thinking about it. I end up with a sort of hungover feeling.

Does anyone else experience this or know what it means?

I think this is utterly usual. If I've been out, whether socialising or to a play/film, or even just late night shopping, I can't just go straight to bed and sleep. I need to unwind and do my normal 'thinking about going to bed' routine.
I think this is pretty common, not a neurodiverse thing.

Yep - I have ASD so I figured it was that, as no NT people have ever mentioned this (to me, anyway)

I feel drained after socialising. My brain will not switch off thinking about what I should have said, or what was talked about, or even just be quiet. I do have anxiety, particularly in social situations (group social situations are hell!), so assumed that it was to do with that.

Yes I am the same! Entirely neurotypical. I need to read and unwind before I sleep after a night out even if it’s super late, wonder if alcohol is the reason as I only drink when I go out.

I’m the same but just put it down to a change of routine and the stimulation of good company.

i am exactly the same and I put it down to autism but who knows!
