AIBU to cancel a copper coil appointment over potential risks?

I had an appointment booked to have a copper coil but got cold feet and cancelled because I'm scared about the risks of ectopic pregnancy, a perforated womb, and pelvic inflammatory disease. Additionally, I had one in my mid-twenties and it made my periods last for weeks on end. My DH is happy to use condoms and if concerned about the risks as well.
AIBU not to have had an IUD put in while I had the chance?

Nb. I can't have hormonal contraception for medical reasons

Why would you be unreasonable? If you don’t want something anymore, you don’t have to have it. Whether it’s a restaurant booking, a dress, or contraception.

We fell pregnant after a condom mistake and I couldn’t go on hormonal contraception either. The risk of pregnancy was more concerning to me (as someone who didn’t want to get pregnant) than anything else. I wouldn’t rely on condoms if you absolutely do not want to get pregnant. How long did you have it fitted last time? It can take up to 6 months for periods to settle.

Once we knew we were done DH got the snip and I had it removed.

Of course you don’t have to have one…..
but
having had a termination, miscarriage of an unwanted pregnancy and a copper coil fitted I can honestly say the copper coil is the least worst.
Its not the best, because all three are absolutely shit experiences, but it’s by a long way the least worst.

When you say you can’t use hormonal contraception, do you mean oestrogens or all hormones? (Which is unusual) An IUS like the Mirena is generally very good at controlling bleeding and preventing pregnancy.

But you are entitled to cancel any appointment you don’t want and using hormonal or any contraception isn’t compulsory.

I had several over the course of the years. I did have some bleeding but it settled after about 6 months. I couldn’t have hormonal contraception either. I’d recommend it. However, if it’s not for you, that’s okay.

It is optional, so no YANBU.

You can always rebook, It's not like you can't opt to have one at another time once you've given it some more thought, it's not a one-time-only deal.

Almost all procedures and medications (hormonal or otherwise) carry some kind of risk. If you do not want to become pregnant then I'm not sure what the answer is, as there won't be a perfect option. I personally wouldn't be at all comfortable with relying on condoms only as a method of contraception - but I very much do not want to fall pregnant.

You don’t need to ask strangers to validate! Would you be ok with a pregnancy? Obv condom not 100%
