AIBU regarding our petsitter

so there's your answer....its your bed or nothing

I'd move heaven and earth to acommodate a pet sitter if i knew they were good, kind, trustworthy and my pet would be in safe (but fun!) hands.

I've got people cat sitting at the moment. Relatives of a friend, I don't know them. They are staying in my bedroom because it's the only decent size bed and they are doing me a favour. It's just the par for the course for cat sitting if you do not have a massive house

This is a good idea. But you could also treat yourself to a brand new mattress (just put a waterproof mattress cover on so no more stains). Potentially cheaper than kennels and certainly cheaper than loosing out on a holiday!

Could you get an inflatable double bed for them. You can get some really comfy ones that are quite high and plug in from Amazon. You are leaving your arguably most precious possessions with your pet sitter. Living breathing things. And you therefore trust them with your most precious possessions.

Time for you to trust them with your space. If they are kind and lovely with your pets then they are worth their weight in gold and deserve trust.

Get a topper and/or mattress cover. Change bed. Have clean sheets ready for your return. Open window, deal with bed.

It is your space again.

Well I guess the pet sitter disagrees unfortunately. I mean at this late notice I'm afraid you don't have much choice. I would say most adults would prefer anything larger than a single. Even a small double would be nicer. I understand this is your private space but short of buying a new bed today this is unfortunately the way it has to be.
It honestly isn't that bad though I promise!

And make sure the ring doorbell battery is charged so you can keep an eye. If they are that large that they struggle on a single bed I'd wonder how much brisk walking they are doing and for how long.

Could it be that the mattress isn't comfortable for a large rugby sized person, rather than it just being the size?

I stayed at a friends in her son's bed for a few nights and I could feel the springs sticking into me. Her son was only 10 and obviously weighed a lot less than me so presumably didn't feel it and never complained about it. I did tell her and she got him a new mattress.

However like other posters I put pet sitter in my bed, with a good quality mattress protector/topper underneath. I usually tell them to just put the sheets in the washing machine but not the protector, which I put through wash separately anyway as its a king size and very thick. (I don't know why you haven't a mattress protector anyway then you wouldn't have period stains!)

Wouldn't your mattress be covered in a sheet?

My dog sitter is coming tomorrow night to sit my dog for four nights. She'll be sleeping in our bed. We'll put fresh sheets on when she arrives, and then she always removes them and washes them before we get home.

Do you never stay in a hotel or an Airbnb? Hundreds have slept there before you!

Don't get the big deal myself but then I've never done it. I just don't go on holiday.

I voted YABU OP as if you’re anything like me then you know finding a good pet sitter that you trust with your beloved pets is like gold dust. Once you have a good one then hold onto them, especially if they won’t tolerate kennels.

I think you have to just suck it up and get a good thick mattress topper that he wouldn’t think to remove when stripping the bed.

if he does this for a living then he may have only just remembered the property and the last uncomfortable sleep. For what it’s worth I’m not particularly large but I’m 5ft 10 and I absolutely cannot sleep on a single bed, especially one butted up against a wall

It does look like that bed wouldn’t be big enough for a rugby sized man. Especially with it being up against the wall. I’d imagine turning around would be a struggle.

I don't think you earn a lot petsitting st peoples' houses.
It might be the staying out which is the carrot. I would tbh see it as a different kind of holidsy experience.

Tbh my childrens' beds are bigger. It seems very small.

Honestly do you have a choice ? Go , enjoy your holiday and forget about the big man on your bed 😜 🛏️. If he is good with your precious animals that's all that matters .

Standard single feels small. Nevermind. It's my opinion and if I ever petsit for other than family I will remember this to bring up first thing.

If the pet sitter cancels at short notice because you won't provide the bed do you have any monetary recourse?
I guess you could leave a bad review, but I'd imagine pet sitters (like cleaners) talk too so, that might not go all your way.
