Should personalised Christmas stockings be M & D for mummy and daddy, or their actual initials?

I think M & D

DH thinks actual initials of our names.

Kids are aged 1 and 4!

🤣🤣🤣I wish I was to be fair.

Your own initials. You aren't just dm and df..
We still do stocking for adult dc..

Even the 30+one !

orangehandles · 03/08/2026 12:30

Children get stockings from Father Christmas, not grown-ups. You are making a rod for your own back here.

I have been on here a very long time and this is probably the most ridiculous question ever asked. Well done.

Then you have missed a LOT of daft threads

Initials in this house, parent of a 5 year old. I am not Father Christmas’s Mum.

Personalised stockings for adults are cringey as fuck.

We use old Christmas stockings mostly donated by my Mum! The kids would not have enjoyed Christmas any more had we had brand new personalised ones.

I mean it’s fine to spend your money like this if you have it but I really think it’s only the parents who get anything from it. And you have to ask, is it worth it?

BowlingSunflowers · 03/08/2026 12:28

There is a Christmas board for all things Christmas related. I am saying this as someone who loves Christmas and you will find lots of posts on there year round.

For some Christmas is not a joyous occasion and they can hide the Christmas board.

Screamingabdabz · 03/08/2026 12:28

Dear oh dear… as if the question itself wasn’t bonkers enough…but to ask it in August… 🙄

blackberryhill · 03/08/2026 12:26

Your actual initials. As someone else said, by the time your children are old enough to identify letters they'll almost certainly know you have a real name (funnily enough I was discussing this with my 4 year old yesterday and he was under no illusions on the subject!)

sohard · 03/08/2026 12:26

Actual initials.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 03/08/2026 12:25

Unless the kids are buying presents for the stockings then it’s your actual name initials. Santa doesn’t fill stockings for mum and dad, they do it for eachother. And it’s not a secret that you have actual names

Ineffable23 · 03/08/2026 12:25

Initials for actual names!

EllieQ · 03/08/2026 12:24

Actual initials, not M & D. You still have a name, not just mum!

We use DH’s stocking from his childhood, discovered when PIL were having a clear out. It has his name on, but mine doesn’t match his and isn’t personalised.

Our rule is that Father Christmas only brings stockings and presents for children, so DH and I do the stockings for each other as a treat. Though DD is 11 and doesn’t believe any more, so there’s no need to keep up the pretence 😀

Really?????

VodkaAndSoda · 03/08/2026 12:16

YABU not to post this in the Christmas topic.

nocoolnamesleft · 03/08/2026 12:16

It’s August. Christmas topics should not be escaping the specific Christmas forum this early. Please.

Morethanadecade · 03/08/2026 12:15

Yes, He's Christmas!

BumblebeesandPaperbags · 03/08/2026 12:09

While it really doesn’t matter for this purpose it is actually very important that your children learn their parents’ names (first name and surname) so anything that helps with that can only be a good thing.

Spacestory · 03/08/2026 12:06

Actual initials. By the time the children can read they’ll know you have a real name!
