To think Ruthie Henshall has done this in bad taste?

She's been on BBC Breakfast this morning talking about her relationship with Prince Edward and how she's written a memoir about her experiences.

Prince Edward is now with Sophie obviously, who he's been with for years. Ruthie did say that the book wasn't a 'kiss and tell', but really?

It's amusingly desperate. Does she have no one to have stopped this shitshow in its tracks?

Horrible for inoffensive Edward.
She really has done a number on him.

KatyaKanani · 04/08/2026 16:38

Oh dear god - that excerpt! How awful.

FML, some excerpts of this have popped up on my Ig page now. I thought it was a spoof AI pisstake but a quick Google had shown that they are real. Whoever first mentioned Ruthie's lack of class was bang on the money.I

We quickly became friends, and although it was strictly platonic at first we soon fell in love. Always considerate, Edward asked me to be patient about sleeping together and later asked to keep our relationship private.
The secrecy could be fun. I remember a Sunday brunch at Kensington Roof Gardens, a mixer for all the Really Useful performers. He was representing the company. I purposefully wore no knickers, so I could spend the whole time walking around the party and then coming back to him, leaving him under no illusion about what I was doing – trying to tempt him into bed. And not to sleep. I was now spending most weekends with him. When we finally made love, in January 1989, it happened very naturally.

You know when you watch those romantic chick flicks and the guy holds the girl's face and gently kisses her. He did that! I was in my own movie. He undressed me and took me to his bed and we made love for the first time. He was romantic and gentle and definitely NOT GAY! And he definitely had experience. Later, I'd often shag him into oblivion, leaving him bleary-eyed when he had to get up early the next day.

Poor Sophie and their kids seeing RH bleating on about this on the TV. RH has lost her class.

Not to mention her own children reading it and the comments it elicits

LorenzoCalzone · 04/08/2026 13:59

Jesus who will read this?

It was serialised in the DM afaik. At least the bits about PE.
I hadn’t realised they dated for so long.

Gateappreciation · 04/08/2026 08:34

I just had a quick look on the Amazon reviews. Many good reviews and many people enjoyed her stories about back stage life in the musicals, the West end etc and the stories about royalty. Some describe it as ‘respectful’ to Prince Edward, others as a kiss and tell, and it has either garnered five stars or one.

it seems she had an interesting story to tell without resorting to her royal relationship, but the Prince Edward bit is the ‘sell’. It is a bit sad that she has sold out after all these years.

piscofrisco · 04/08/2026 04:27

I mean no one is interested in Prince Edward. And few people are interested in Ruthie Henshall. So it all seems incredibly dull and desperate on her part.

Cuppachuchu · 03/08/2026 10:45

I thought she had more class than that, but no. 😏
Oh, Ruthie. How disappointing.
She must be short of work. It's all about the money.

I thought she had more class too. Very disappointed in her.

I don’t really know who Ruthie Henshawe is and hadn’t really come across her until she did Richard Osman’s House of Games a while ago. And I didn’t take to her at all that week. I often think that show is quite eye opening in how celebs are. Ok they’re not interviewed as such by they are on tv for 2.5 hours of air time in one week which is a lot. And then I saw her yesterday on Sunday Brunch and it confirmed I’m not a fan.
and her trying to sell book and make money about Prince Edward is so distasteful.

Applepe · 03/08/2026 15:13

I don’t even know who she is, so I don’t even know why she has a book out. Not much of an autobiography if all she has to talk about is a relationship with Prince Edward.

OutOfTheOtherSide · 03/08/2026 15:10

It's embarrassing for her. She was brilliant in her field but her reputation was gone overnight when she published this. She has kids too! Imagine being her child and having to read about their mum cashing in on a short lived fling. It's almost Katie Price levels of desperation. Very odd!

Lexy2345 · 03/08/2026 13:48

I thought she was awful, banging on about her relationship with Edward and her closeness to the royal family. She sounded very full of herself and obviously thinks she’s far more well known than she is.

SummerNocturnal · 03/08/2026 12:55

Heard her promoting this on radio the other week She had diaries of all of that time and some of the anecdotes - singing les miz around the table to the royals - were interesting enough if you like royalty mixed with sleb twaddle.
She came across as very effusive, nostalgic and positive towards Edward.
Got to be honest - I hadn't seen I'm a celeb so was 😲 while driving. I'd had no idea they were a thing. Not a hint in the press. Five years is quite a long relationship.
Should she be defined by it, well, no, but nor has she written anything other than a memoir of the girl she used to be. And I do like the title.
I'm not the demographic. That would be my late MIL. She'd have read it already! I haven't gone across to read excerpts from mail or kindle sample. But nor would I be bothered if I was Edward, Sophie or one of his kids. It's a snapshot in time and she speaks very highly of him.
If anything, I'd kind of be quite happy the record was set straight as for years, it was made out he was gay - at a time when it was still demonised, so I always thought he'd had an arranged/lavender marriage of sorts (sorry Soph!) and/or swung both ways.

KatyaKanani · 03/08/2026 12:35

Lomonald · 03/08/2026 11:14

I don't think she has brought out her book as a distraction for the RF and Andrew.

No indeed! That's a bit tin foil hat territory...

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 03/08/2026 11:19

Wonder if she was holding out for an MBE and this is some kind of revenge for never getting one.

Oh maybe she would definitely want Damehood though.

welshgirl2025 · 03/08/2026 11:50

Yes really disappointed in her. Thought she had more class to be honest.

TorroFerney · 03/08/2026 11:49

HoldMyWine · 03/08/2026 11:34

In really poor taste. She must be skint.

She was in cabaret last time I saw her, I wonder what tu pay is. Although it’s not the riches of a royal is it I suppose.

TorroFerney · 03/08/2026 11:48

NewspaperTaxis · 03/08/2026 11:10

Probably overthinking but seems to me this story is highly convenient for the Royal Family as it distracts from the Andrew M-Windsor thing - well, have we read anything about that in the last few months? State organisations are very big on the 'create a new thing so that awful thing is not the latest thing' angle, to push bad new back down the line and into the past.

Liz Truss is trying to do that too, making a lot of noise so her crashing the economy for a generation is not the 'latest thing' about her.

More than probably! Overthinking I mean.

sunsettosunrise · 03/08/2026 11:43

carkerpartridge · 03/08/2026 11:32

When she was on BBC this morning, the interviewer said that she could turn her stories into a musical. RH replied in a jokey way that it could be a Netflix series . I don't think she was joking. She seems so desperate.

I saw her interview on this morning, she said Prince Edward would enjoy the trip down memory lane! Does she really think he will be reading that book when he's happily married. Your right she does seem desperate, and delusional.

I wonder if she's bitter that she didn't become Duchess Ruthi...

BIossomtoes · 03/08/2026 11:39

the Queen was a good judge of character.

Was she? Have you forgotten who her favourite son was?

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 03/08/2026 11:35

She was on this morning a few weeks ago and was quite open about their sex life. Not cool. Poor Sophie.
