Jabs to lose 1.5 stone?

torquayturkey · 02/08/2026 12:45

I’m 5’7 and feel my best when I’m between 10.5-11st. A couple of years ago I had a really bad time with my mental health (ended up sectioned) and lost 3 stone, making me 9st and I looked too thin. I’m much better now and I’ve gained 3st - I’m now 12st 4 and feel disgusting.

is it worth trying a GLP-1 to lost the 1-2 stone? I’m mainly worried about the side effects eg vomiting and stomach pains. What is everyone’s experience? Thank you.

It was magic for me. Lost 2 stone in 6 months, not fast, but with no effort. Didn’t watch what I ate at all beyond ensuring I was eating nutritionally well (making effort to prioritise protein and fibre) didn’t count a calorie, didn’t deprive myself of anything I wanted.

If you’re not massively overweight chances are your diet isn’t too horrific so the jabs will just help you naturally make better decisions, but more easily. I’m choosing to stay on it, just a low dose, I’ve lost weight in the past but have never really managed to keep it off, it feels so freeing knowing this is just my weight now and I love it.

FormerFatty · 02/08/2026 14:00

Everyone I know on them can’t eat at all, they feel sick and the thought of food makes them feel like vomiting. That doesn’t sound particularly pleasant to me. I’m also curious about what happens when people stop them- do they start eating properly again and regain the weight?

Not remotely my experience nor that of the 12 or so people I know on Mounjaro.

I stoppped over a year ago and I’ve not gone back to mindless snacking (which was my reason for being overweight). I also continue to feel satiated quickly, so my meals tend to be on the small side.

You lied? People like you will make it harder for other people to get the jabs.

Of course it's not true

If it was that easy to go on a strict diet, then no one would need the jabs, would they.

The OP needs to be careful with her healthy, but she's as allowed to use jabs as anyone else.

And again, no one is stopping people buying them when they "just" have 2 stones to lose.

You lied? People like you will make it harder for other people to get the jabs.

Can you explain what you mean by this? Other people lying won’t make it harder for those who qualify to get their prescription, so do you mean it will make it harder for others who don’t meet the criteria? I can’t work out what you are trying to say.

To me, they’re great for obese people with health conditions which is why they were created in the first place. They shouldn’t be used as yet another crash diet for lazy people who need to lose a couple of stone.

Agreed.

I really wish mumsnet would delete / ban posts encouraging other users to lie to get prescription medication. It is dangerous and unethical.

Gardenflowering · 02/08/2026 13:42

I know others who have had to stop the jag due to the side effects.

It was magic for me. I didn’t think about what I was eating, no tracking, no work. No hunger.

That’s great for you.
Its been a fucking torturous slog for me.
OP asked about side effects, this is my experience of having the side effects.

Don’t be silly,

Rumpledandcrumpled · 02/08/2026 13:30

Some nonsense on here, some pharmacies prescribe at bmi 25 now and you can do micro dosing below with others,

If you feel disgusting at 12st 4 I think you need to get help with your body self esteem. It’s not that loosing weight (which you can do by eating healthily and exercise) isn’t bad idea, it is, but disgusting is a very strong word for what is only just overweight. Jabs are useful in come circumstances to help with willpower but all they do is reduce hunger, you can loose through self discipline too which you have in the past

This comment. You shouldn’t feel disgusting about being very slightly overweight.

Gardenflowering · 02/08/2026 13:04

It’s not magic.

You will still need to control everything that you eat, track intake, put the work in.

The jags are expensive and you will need to complete a health questionnaire which will be assessed by a pharmacist, they can and do say no to prescribing the drug.

I have Mounjaro. I have nausea, headaches and feel very unwell after each weekly jag, 11 months on.
I have entire months where I loose zero yet am tracking, restricting and surviving on under 900 cals a day. As I say, it’s not magic.

No they won't. It's perfectly easy to get them if you qualify.

CelticSilver · 02/08/2026 13:07

Your BMI is 26. You're not eligible. Also your mental health history means any reputable provider will refuse.

She absolutely would be eligible at some pharmacies. Off label prescribing is not unusual.

RoseField1 · 02/08/2026 13:09

earlyshirley · 02/08/2026 12:58

You won’t qualify as your BMI is too low.
You can lose that in about 10 weeks on a very low carb diet. Chuck in some intermittent fasting or ADF. Jobs a good’un and you get to save about £2000

Lots of places prescribe at BMI 26 plus now.

fantom · 02/08/2026 13:07

I feel they are a bit magic actually. They make dieting and making sensible choices so so easy. I’ve no side effects at all.
The only drawback is the cost.
You’d definitely qualify through some providers.

MenstrualTramps · 02/08/2026 13:04

Well I think if she could just lose "naturally " she do that no?

I've got 2 stone to lose, I use wegovy through shemed. It's so easy, I dont even think about food. There's no effort involved.

Funkyfoxy · 02/08/2026 13:02

But it's just cheaper, healthier and easy to do it without, no? Walk 10k steps and cut down calories. You will lose that in no time and feel proud of yourself and fitter.

Blimms · 02/08/2026 13:01

FormerFatty · 02/08/2026 12:52

I’d say go for it. But I had no unpleasant side effects. I don’t know anyone on Mounjaro with vomiting and stomach pains.

I didn’t qualify as my bmi wasn’t high enough (still fat though), so I had to reduce my height and tweak my weight.

I found the experience extraordinarily easy and I’ve kept the weight off for well over a year.

You lied? People like you will make it harder for other people to get the jabs.

What is AdF?

Blimms · 02/08/2026 12:59

I believe they won’t prescribe to anyone who has had a serious mental health condition.

Also, I don’t think your BMI is high enough.
