It all depends on your interests really doesnt it? I retired early from a full-on full time job, I couldnt fit my interests in as I would have liked- now I'm retired, i genuinely wonder how I found time to work, Im fitter and healthier than when I was working, and am enjoying life so much! My time is filled with, not in any particular order;
allotment-3-4 days a week
volunteering job 2 ams per week
fossil hunting at local beaches
country/hill walking
meet friends for lunch/catch ups
theatre/opera/ballet/cinema evenings
NT and EH visits
RHS visits
Weekend and overnight stays
Holidays
a wet Tuesday morning downtime would be very welcome lol

I’m with you. I’m 60s and work FT. Partly because I don’t know what I’d do with myself if I was home all day.
there’s a limit to how many museums, cinemas, art galleries and nice lunches you can do, particularly if you don’t live in a city. And they all cost money - I’d be spending more when I don’t work than when I do, and we can’t have that!

Specifically Odeon silvers are on a Tuesday. Morning and an early afternoon screenings of a current film. (Last two I saw were the Christophers, and Project Hail Mary.) £2.00 including a cup of tea and two biscuits.

Sounds naff, but it is a good reason to take the bus into town, meet friends and, weather permitting, walk home.

FWIW no one asks your age, at least at my local Odeon.

Our summer has been very underwhelming so I'vd just carried on my usual - reading, walking, going to the gym, meeting friends for coffee and lunch.

I hate organised activities so wouldn't join any groups and have no interest in meeting new people.

Not depressing at all. Lived in five countries and had an amazing time.

The current crop of retirees are amongst the most affluent retirees we have seen, and massively more so than those coming behind them in the next 10-20 years. They have plenty of money to spend shopping, going to galleries, Rock choir and a plethora of activities set up by people realising that this generation have both time and money on their hands. Most of them, will be hoping that the grey wet weather brings enough rain to offset the hosepipe bans (although, they will likely have registered as priority users and be exempt anyway) so that their gardens and pots are able to recover.

Same as everyone else that happens to be home. Housework, washing, shopping, a bit of scrolling on MN, watch a bit of tv, meet friends for a coffee, indulge in your favourite hobby, life goes on.

The extra things are the millions of events that councils etc put on during the day.

I work two days a week, if its cold and wet I'm happy to read my book or watch netflix

Rain or shine I meet a friend for a dog walk on Tuesday morning then I have a class at the gym. On other days I have different classes, dog walks and a volunteer job. Other than that sewing, gardening and reading. I am never, ever bored.

Whether I go out or stay in would depend on whether I can find my keys or not. I have a habit of picking them up to go out, remembering I need to take something with me, putting them down whilst I search for the something, then not remembering where I put the keys .

This Tuesday I'm taking my mum with advanced dementia to chiropody. But everyone enjoys different things!!

Gym

The trick is to do what you find interesting not what other people find interesting. HTH. If you don't find anything interesting that's on you.

Most of the retirees I know look after grandchildren or grand-dogs most of the week.

I’m not yet retired but lots of my friends are. Most could fill their days several times over.

Well, I plan on doing my indoor hobbies, of which there are many. Maybe start another one or two, as well. (They may seem boring to some, but we're all different. Personally, I prefer my hobbies to any job I've ever done.)

If I feel like it, go for a walk anyway. I prefer to walk when it's cooler, unless it's bucketing down. Could join a gym and even take a class. Join a group, if I want more human interaction.

If I retire and feel terribly bored, I suppose there are 'side gig' type jobs I could pursue to fill in some time. Or perhaps I'd start a YouTube channel about one of my boring hobbies, simply for the fun of it. I enjoy sharing ideas and inspiration with like-minded people.
