Aibu to have reported the dustbin lorry to the council?

Bit of back story us and our next door neighbours quietly dislike each other. Nobody has really said anything but I know we both annoy each other from what is said about the street. They moan about us, things we do etc.

Recently they have been playing loud music in the garden at the weekends in a passive aggressive way. This started when they complained about our chickens being noisy ( we have rehomed the chickens because of this but thats another story) the reason I'm saying all of this is because in general I am just in a bad mood about our neighbours and don't know if this has tainted my reaction.

So next door neighbour is a bin man, he wasn't at work.
Bin lorry come and parks up across my drive . Workmen get out and go in neighbours house/garden for 40 minutes having a drink and break. All this time I was unable to get off or access my drive. There was a bin lorry parked unattended across it.

So husband rings to complain to the council. They were confused as on their tracker the lorry was supposedly elsewhere. They also agreed 40minutes was excessive but said they must have been emptying bins? No they were having a cuppa at my neighbours! Council are going to investigate, I suspect they were taking unauthorised breaks and turning the tracker off.. maybe.

Anyway the reason this has also annoyed me so much is our neighbours have lived hear 30+ years and act like they own the street. Complain about anything we do (leaves from our trees fall in their garden for example.) They are 60+ and set in their ways and we are a young family. Tbh I just dont think they like us, we normally don't rise to it and smile and wave etc. But this time I had had enough and complained.

Aibu? And have we just started ww3?

Possibly the discussion has moved on by now but in our LA binmen are allowed to go home after their daily round is completed, so no penalties if they take longer or choose to have a break.

Yeah I wasn't sure about this if thats the case then fine. I wasn't reporting them for having a break just where they parked. It was the person on the phone that was confused as they weren't supposed to be in our area. The whole break this was kind of secondary.

Im surprised they can park up and leave the lorry for a break though. I've seen them having breaks outside our local fish and chip shop but they are obviously with the vehicle.

Again im not a bin man so wouldn't know, I just know you cant park infont of someone's drive.

Did you ask them to move the bin lorry? Were you needing to get off your drive or just annoyed?
If no to the above then why call the council telling tales? And yes you are now at war. 💣

Sounds as though it was reported to bepetty about the neighbours rather than any actual need

I would be annoyed my driveway was blocked, however i would of just gone and asked them to move it if i had needed to be off and asked them to not do it again.

BUT the people you have reported aren’t actually your neighbour, so your neighbour is not going to receive any reprimanded from work as seemingly he wasn’t at work 🤷‍♀️ so your logic in reporting the bin men to get back at your neighbour is flawed

If they are acting like their age makes them entitled fuckwits, then I guess they are old. If they are using their older age to expect everyone to kowtow to their "rules", they are old, entitled fuckwits. Working has nothing to do with it. Their behavior does.

Telling tales I guess was a build up of frustration of them constantly moaning about us and them swanning about like angels.

Don't think they done it to piss me off but to go round for a cuppa on their shift.

So, you weren’t coming or going from anywhere? You might have got the bin men in bother, but your neighbours won’t be affected.

Yes you can see down our street gradually the older people are moving on and the next generation are moving in. Of course they are not going to like the change they have lived there over 30 years.

The first line of your post is about the neighbour not the bin truck. I think that’s what’s getting mixed reactions from people as it reads like I have a problem with my neighbours and so I reported someone else.

Bit because the OP committed the cardinal sin of a) mentioning age and b) them being older - she’s the one in the wrong. 🤯

I think age is relevant sometimes. I’ve lived in cul de sacs in my childhood and it was well recognised that some older generations didn’t like younger families moving in and their little close changing.

Also I have noticed it’s always those who take the piss that don’t like new people - who may just stand up to them!

I’ve had awful neighbours, I just saved and moved, no record of disputes when I sold (to a landlord).

They know we reported it of course. We have given evidence they asked for.

I wouldn't let nasty neighbours dictate where I live. I like my house and no plans on moving for at least 10 years

  1. The neighbour you dont like wasn't even working at the time the dustcart blocked you in, so how would he be responsible or get in trouble for where some other Binmen parked?

  2. you said they empty the bin of a daughter of someone whose father works on a recycling round elsewhere. Yet the father got in big trouble at work. Why? He hadnt done anything wrong. He didn't empty her bin for free.

  3. how do you and your neighbours know whether she pays for garden waste or not?

I also find it hard to understand why the whole team would want to delay their finish by driving to another road to empty the garden waste bin of a daughter of someone whose dad works on another team.It just seems very unlikely!

No but I guess his colleagues would be pissed off. But really i reported it because it was blocking my drive. I was wanting to see if people would still report even if they didn't have the bad relationship with the neighbour or if it had tainted my view. It wasn't solely to piss the neighbour off.

Other side next door neighbours dad was working on that bin lorry. Bad coincidence or whatever. They obviously sort of saw it as a 2 in 1, empty daughters bin, then go and see mate the other side.

I know they dont pay as we have recently got a new recycling scheme. Everyone who pays for their garden waste used to have a green bin this was swapped for brown under the thew scheme if you have subscribed. Theirs is still green.

I do agree in this instance though, it should not have been there..chosen to park to block you in instead of inconveniencing the host.

I’d be really annoyed if a bin lorry parked across my drive so that I couldn’t get in or out for 40 minutes. I’d also have reported it as it’s really inconsiderate!
