Would you expect an offer of petrol money in this instance?

If driving with two friends on a 80 mile round social trip, would you expect them to offer petrol money?

No I wouldn’t. If I’m happy to drive there and back, I’m happy to drive end of.

Is it an offer you would accept? Most seem to want an offer just for the sake of it and they would never accept it, which is bizarre. If you want petrol money, ask for it.

I wouldn't but I think most of my friends are in "sometimes I give lifts sometimes they do" territory.

I never expect "petrol money" from friends or family to be honest.

A thank you, buying me a coffee or something, yes is polite.
But I would find it weird if they offered.

I'd expect people to offer petrol money to a teen who's working all summer to earn cash, not to other adults.

Yes generally, but not if they’d do something like pay for your lunch or do the driving another time. Depends on the nature of your relationship.

Yes, mine would even for a 15 mile trip one way and vice versa. My best mate even insists on giving a few quid. Guess it’s a sign of how we were brought up?
