To be a bit cheesed off by this window display?

Saw this on the high road today. My daughter asked what it meant bless her. The rest of the display on the other side included cross dressing obscene mannequins who had large breasts and moustaches etc. This was a charity shop that supports homelessness.

Sex is not just a gametic perspective though, sex is a full range of physiological and genetic traits which is non binary.

what the shop is alluding to doesn't take away from that.

Hormones overlap between sexes, genetalia both external and internal can develop with varying characteristics.

Sex is only binary in theory and actual human biology is not, so regardless of views on sex, it just is not binary.

You are confusing sex, with traits affected by sex.
Hormones, height, breast size, body hair etc in humans will all be affected by sex. But being taller, hairier or having a bigger penis doesn't make you more male.

I am a woman who is bearded and breasted so it makes me feel seen 🤣

😂😂
Oh my god! Somebody no doubt will tell you what the word "beard" means 😂

You can't understand why human sex is binary but other human characteristics are not binary?

I understand biology.
Yes. I know what it means, thank you.
I just didn't understand your points which were very poorly explained.

We're in a sad state of affairs. Back in the 70s in my formative years, boys and men often had long hair. Men could wear frilly shirts, tight loon pants and strings of beads and not be labelled as "trans". Girls and women could have their hair cut short and wear baggy jeans and DMs, with similar freedom of expression.
Nowadays a teenage girl chooses not to wear false eyelashes or long nails and gets her hair cut and people ask if she's trans. It's not healthy.

Well, yes, I agree. Human biology as whole is not binary, think leg length or hair colour, but I think the sign in the shop window was alluding to sex, as in male/female, which is binary. You can get disorders of sexual development, but they are still either male or female and are not discrete sexes in their own right.

The term 'biology' means the study of life and living organisms and includes botany, microbiology and zoology amongst other things so thinking that 'biology' only refers to human sex is a bit short sighted to say the least.

The part of 'biology' that relates to human sex is binary. Other parts of 'biology', such as the development of limbs, skin tone, the size of your ears etc. are not binary.

ETA: saying 'humans are/are not binary' as a phrase on its own is meaningless.

Does the other sign say "protect trans youth"? And that's in conjunction with a sign about breast removal in healthy women?

yes it really does.

It says that sex isn’t binary alongside a picture of surgically removed breasts.

I mean you couldn’t make it up.

mammalian biology is only binary at the level of gametes which is a reproductive cell containing a single set of unprepared chromosomes.

The development of genetic, hormonal and anatomical sex characteristics is not binary in any way.

However, there are frequent chromosomal variations ie the platypus which has a complex 5 pair chromosome system.

In humans we see non binary development which shows us that physical anatomy is not a flip switch.

Gender, which is not biology as it is a social construct, is not the same as sex which is the biological aspect and non binary.

We are not Platypus we are humans.

Sex is binary.

Disorders in sexually development, such as a micro penis, doesn’t mean that a male is female or a third sex.

Co-joined twins do not prove humans have either one or two heads. Jesus wept. it’s not difficult.

Is this purposely baiting? Would you actually say this to someone without hiding behind a keyboard? Do you honestly, actually, have such little empathy for other human beings?

The most likely reason to be homeless is being female.
The highest percentage of a group that are homeless are autistic people.
Trans people are 3 to 6 times more likely to be autistic.

Human biology IS binary in term of sexes.
I doubt the window display is much to do with the charity's ethos and more about the interests of the blue haired, autistic young woman working there.

If I had a bag of stuff I was about to donate I’d walk right out and take it somewhere else. Is there no element of society that isn’t poisoned by this trans stuff? For such a tiny portion of the population why is so much about them? Male entitlement at play as always.

I haven’t looked at the stats but the reason you will see more cis than trans people homeless is because there are more cis people. But if you are trans you are more likely to be discriminated against (as evidenced by this very thread) and therefor much more likely to be kicked out of home or refused tenancies etc.

people’s hate towards trans people is really upsetting

Can you give examples of what you think is 'hate'? Disagreement is not hate. Scepticism about unsubstantiated claims is not hate either.

'Biology was never binary' is a very odd form of words, but if the picture is of a topless woman who's had a mastectomy I suppose it's meant to indicate the totally unscientific view that unlike all the other mammals humans come in more than two sexes. It's been said innumerable times but here we go again - some people have disorders of sexual development. They used to be called intersex. The people affected, their loved ones and the medical and scientific professionals working with them and researching their conditions have agreed that DSD is a better term because it doesn't imply that someone with a DSD falls somewhere between male and female. All DSDs are sex-specific.

Biological sex is binary because there are only two gametes, i.e. sex cells - eggs and sperm. Every human being in existence is on track from conception, when you get your lifetime complement of chromosomes, i.e. all your genes, to have a body organised around producing one, and only one, of these gametes. If you have the SRY gene you are on track to be male and produce sperm after puberty. If you don't you are on track to be female and have a far more complicated body and reproductive system. Your lifetime supply of ova will already be in your ovaries when you are born, you will have a womb, vagina etc, you will have breasts constructed differently from male breasts, you will go through female puberty, after which you start having periods and your body should be capable of pregnancy, birth and lactation.

'Being capable of' doesn't mean 'you have to do this, you have to have these body parts, or you are not properly female/male'. Nobody is any more human or any more female or male than anyone else because of their reproductive status or choices or because of their health.

But that leads us onto the can of worms which is gender and all the silly meaningless stereotypes and expectations imposed on us because of our sex. Lots of us in older generations long ago challenged all this and broke some of this stuff down, only to see younger generations behaving as if being gender nonconforming is somehow a sign of having a male brain in a female body or vice versa (an utterly meaningless statement for a start). It is an absolute tragedy that some unhappy young people have convinced themselves that they can solve all their problems by identifying as something they're not and never will be, and having irreversible surgery and hormone treatment to try to make themselves look a bit more like the opposite sex, leading to infertility and lifelong health problems, affecting young women particularly badly.

Fortunately it sounds as if children and teenagers coming up through schools now are reacting strongly against this and this incredibly destructive fad may be on the way out. It can't come soon enough for me.

You sure? Pretty sure 100% of the men I’ve seen sat in doorways or sleeping on park benches didn’t have dresses on.

Well biology isn't binary, biological sex and gender are too different things.

I really don't see the issue with this.

Plenty of women with breasts grow facial hair, just society has told us we should get rid of it and makes us embarrassed to have it.

In addition, people have cross dressed for hundreds of years, no one thinks twice about it in the panto.

I think you could have used this as a teaching moment to your child that we accept people how they are and for who they want to be, because it has absolutely no impact on our lives but it means they get to live happy ones.

If sex and gender are two different things why do we use the word ‘woman’ which means female biological sex to describe a biological man’s gender.

make it make sense.
