AIBU To Point Out Opinions You Don’t See Outside Of Mumsnet …?

So I have noticed that according to (a lot of posters on) Mumsnet:

-Transphobia is perfectly acceptable.
-Ageism is the worst/most prevalent type of discrimination going on in the uk today.
-Cheating in a relationship is tantamount to murder.
-Enrolling your children in boarding school means you don’t love them.
-Teaching is always a miserable profession, with no exceptions.

What else have you noticed is a very common MN opinion but not one you hear in real life?

I’m not trying to start an argument on the truth of any of these statements, just curious what others have noticed.

You wouldn’t need to go up and check, you’d be able to see and hear them on the baby monitor.

Plenty of family-friendly hotels give out baby monitors so their guests can do this.

I don’t think I’d do it if the restaurant was in another building, or too far from my room - but as long as I felt the environment was safe, I could get back to my room quickly, I can see and hear them on the monitor, I was confident wouldn’t wake up etc, I can’t really see the big deal if you can see and hear them at all times.

What would worry me is, say you were in the restaurant on the ground floor and your child was on the 2nd or 3rd floor. You can see and hear them on the monitor, but if they start choking or someone gets in the room and harms or takes them, it'll take you a few minutes to get to them and it might be too late. It's not like having a baby monitor at home where an intruder would probably have to pass you, or you could be upstairs in seconds.

apologies if I quoted the wrong person!

No worries 😊

Don’t have children because sometimes you eat dinner downstairs after the baby has gone to bed and is asleep upstairs 😂

yes, it's exactly the same, to be in the same house or in a hotel.

You know it's not, and if that's the best you can find to justify what is odd behaviour, it's not looking great.

I didn’t do that though. The person you replied to is lying.

Sorry, edited but left my op.

I agree with you.

There are too many crossed wires so I’m bowing out.

I don’t think you should leave babies alone in a strange place.

That's ok that's your opinion. I don't think they should be left alone but don't see any problem with them asleep with a baby monitor in the same building. What's the difference from being at hone

Huh?? What apparently have I said?

Wow, why are you being so rude? Can you not have a debate without resorting to personal attacks?

So what’s your point about leaving babies alone?

I am taking part in a discussion. And I don't think I need to worry about leaving my kids in another room as they are all adults.

So what’s your point about leaving babies alone?

A discussion means guilt apparently!

Differentforgirls · 29/07/2026 15:17

Do what you like. If I judge you for it then ignore me. You would if you think it’s ok.

Nothing to do with you. You’re now replying to my posts to other people 🤐

So you are accusing multiple posters of lying? Ok…

Thirteenblackcats · 29/07/2026 15:18

MidnightPatrol · 28/07/2026 21:43

That leaving a baby asleep in a hotel room with a baby monitor while you eat downstairs is neglectful and extremely dangerous.

Literally everyone I know does it. Hotels provide baby monitors to allow you to do it.

On here it is considered criminal.

I wouldn’t do this. I don’t know anyone who would.

MidnightPatrol · 29/07/2026 15:16

I’m not sure why this has now descended into you telling people I’m lying, I’m still not even clear what I’m supposed to be lying about.

My post edit was to say my babies would
find anything post 6pm ‘late at night’, I’m not sure how you can conclude that’s a lie, it’s not an uncommon problem.

Timeforachange26 · 29/07/2026 15:17

Differentforgirls · 29/07/2026 14:54

You don’t see the issue and I do. It’s called a “difference of opinion”.

It would be interesting to see what the actual issue is. I can see a preference but not an actual issue

Differentforgirls · 29/07/2026 15:17

Timeforachange26 · 29/07/2026 15:15

Exactly how ?? What with work kids etc? Or are parents not allowed to do anything for themselves on holiday?

Do what you like. If I judge you for it then ignore me. You would if you think it’s ok.

I have no issue with what other parents do, when my child has been of an age that they’ll sleep in a pram I’ve done that, when they’ve been a young baby and in a suitable environment I’ve done that.

My point was merely that why such judgement for one, and not the other from those criticising me…

I am replying because people keep commenting suggesting this is criminal behaviour and should be reported to social services which is… quite extreme and therefore interesting to discuss.

Which I haven’t so I suggest you reply to the people who did.

Differentforgirls · 29/07/2026 14:28

Why go on a family holiday to get “adult time”? You can do that at home.

MidnightPatrol · 29/07/2026 15:14

Differentforgirls · 29/07/2026 15:11

Anyway, you’ve proven you know it wasn’t the best thing to do because all these hours later you’re still justifying it.

If you thought it was great parenting you still wouldn’t be here trying to justify it by criticising other parents .

if you want adult time, pay a babysitter, take an au-pair with you, leave the children with family

or just don't have children. Dumping a baby in a hotel room because you want "me-time" is ridiculous.
