Holiday - to rebook or let them go?

If it’s AMEX, it had to cancel flights due to breast cancer, all points, money and companion voucher returned within 24 hours! They were great.

It sounds like the idiot husband booked with points and using a credit card too which would typically refund for this type of issue! He’s being such an ass. I suspect he’s lying like he did before telling OP he booked flights years ago when that’s not even possible. If he hadn’t made the lie so shocking that people here could tell poor OP you can’t book flights that far out I wonder what else he’s lying about.

This is the exact stress someone in the hospital for a serious cardiac event, about to have major surgery, just doesn’t need. The holiday shouldn’t even be a damn question and wouldn’t be for most people in relationships. It’s truly despicable. OP you should cancel regardless. That odious toad can go alone if he insists but you and your kids would have a lovely time if you can go together, even if cardiac issues mean you can’t do as many rides.

Just read your posts so it's probably been asked but why do you think you wont get flight costs back? Unless you didnt have insurance at the time you should get something but might be a separate excess if booked at different times.

Of cause the holiday should be rebooked as they should be caring for you after your operation.

Out family goes on vacation to Orlando annually and I wouldn't forgive my husband for going away if I was ill like you......so if it was a once in a lifetime saved for holiday I'd be even less inclined to forgive him. It would be the end for me that he even thinks that's okay.

This exactly…I’ve seen many a northern family holidaying at the back end of August for that exact reason. But you’d think from another poster that it was a ghost town in August 😂

Yeah I had a ridiculously hot birthday in March one year, but a Feb so cold I needed trousers another, Feb is an odd month isn’t it.

I plan on going in the Feb/March before the school holidays more in the future, just have to time it right with ride closures, I suspect those trips will be more of a last minute booking than a 1-2years in advance.

Well, Feb can be some excellent weather. February-March is a great time to go if you pick your dates right. It's been one of our favourite times, none of the late Spring and Summer humidity! Mid to late Sep-end of Oct is Halloween & MNSSHP, that time of the year can be pretty pricy & busy. Harder for tourists that locals because locals can pick and choose when they go as opposed to tourists who have to lock down their dates and can't really change plans.

I think this provided you are well enough to look after yourself at home or you have someone else who could come to care for you.

School vacation varies by state. A lot of Southern states (e.g, Florida and Southern California) start back to school by mid August (Aug 10 to 13) whereas for the Northern States it is often the day after Labour Day (early September).

There is no one American school year calendar. Up north they are off usually at least until the day after Labor Day (1st Monday in September)

Florida is unusual in that schools go back up to a month earlier than the US average.

Good advice though, I always hate the first couple of days on my August trip, the heat puts me flat on my ass (literally sometimes) so I wouldn’t recommend if OP is having ongoing health issues.

I recently booked flights and when we had to cancel our trip the credit card company were able to claw their points back for us and we got a full refund on the flights via the credit card company (not the airline)!!! So the flights is booked via a credit card like AMEX may well refund you as they often have their own insurance protections and is why most people book via credit. So no money may be lost! Worth a shot.

Aside from that OP even if you were well enough to go, August is hell on earth in Florida (used to live there and have many friends still there messaging me about the weather most days as I now live in a better climate). I promise I’m not being rude about you booking your holiday then, just from a health perspective wanted to add some info.

There is severe heat, humidity, daily thunderstorms and huge amounts of rain that leave you soaked through, huge lines as American children are also off school so a lot longer waiting and standing in lines and some of the rides you’d not be able to go on even when feeling better after your op so definitely make a list before you go of the gentler rides.

If you can rebook and use these reasons too for your selfish prick of a husband then see if you can shift it to Spring or Winter as it will be much safer for you from an exertion/cardio point of view too.

Personally I think my 4 years in the past 5 years living in Florida trumps your 2 yrs worth of holidays as a tourist in 20 years and that doesn’t even include Walt Disney, California, Disney Paris or Disney Hong Kong.

There you go sssuming I’d never booked a hotel in Florida now you’re assuming that a former expat has never gone to Disney from London. Nice one, did you miss where I said the other Disney parks I’d visited too?

You’re free to have a different opinion on how long the magic of Disney lasts, but most people don’t fly long haul to Disney every month for 20 years. You’re kind of a super fan, not the norm.

It is truth. I’ve seen and heard it happen. Many insurance policies don’t cover the family unless it is a minor child that is too ill to travel. And OP may be deemed to have had an undisclosed pre-existing condition.
