So, my postal vote arrived for the Clacton by-election...

It will take a moment to be visible I imagine, but there are over 30 candidates standing. Many not seriously, as we know. What a farce.

Here are some of Count Binface’s pledges:

  • I will hold weekly constituency surgeries
  • I will answer all letters and emails within three days
  • For every day I spend overseas, I will spend ten in Clacton
  • Any outside earnings will be donated to Clacton charities
  • On a postcode lottery basis, I will help one family per week put their bins out

The first four are a reaction to what Nigel Farage has not been doing, I imagine.

Those aren't his pledges, he confirmed on twitter. Not sure where they came from!

His list of actual pledges is much longer, and includes a new hand dryer to be moved to a more sensible position.

I was actually just thinking that and it's most likely the green voters will grow out of it.
I desperately want to believe that things wouldn't be bad under greens but to be totally honest, I'm mostly scared of the influx of people who pretend to be asylum seekers and then commit abhorrent crimes. I think greens would let every single one in and deny that they're actually dangerous.

I'm no more scared of asylum seekers committing crimes than I am of British born men committing them tbh. The problem is male VAWG, whatever the ethnicity of the man. That's not to say I agree with open borders, simply that as a woman I'm a lot more frightened of Reform and their every day misogyny than the threat from men from abroad.

Yeah, I think you're failing to see how the electoral system works.

It's quite common on threads like this. Either people really are that thick, or there are a lot of non UK posters. Or both could be true.

It will be interesting to see if support for the Greens is something these voters age out of, or if it turns into a a long term loyalty. If so, with Conservatives gradually falling out of the electorate through natural means, and Reform voters close on their heels, you might need to brace yourself for very different viewpoints holding sway. The next decade will be interesting.

I think the biggest problem here is that you should, in my opinion, always vote FOR someone or something, rather than against. Look at all the people who voted "Anything but Tory" at the last election then have done nothing but moan about Labour since.
I don't like Farage but worry about people suggesting voting for Count Binface which is just a juvenile idea in my view (unless he has some wonderful and serious policies which I have missed)

With a title like Count he should really have a seat in the House of Lords. Which he would need to renounce. But we don't really do Counts in this country so he must be okay. Or, and hear me out. Perhaps he's not really a Count??

Otherwise other titles are fine: see Sir Keir Starmer with his non hereditary peerage.

I wish the greens would just *uck off.

Their supporters are absolutely mental. Eg a man tried breaking into someone's house and the people managed to take a photo of him and posted it on the local Reddit. Some locals called the poster a creep, a weirdo and a racist for taking the photo because the intruder was black. Apparently you're not meant to report the crime unless it's against white people as otherwise you're racist.

This is not an unserious election.

It’s a really important demonstration that democracy can give ordinary people a say.

I really hope people use their votes to get NF out.

If Farage wins
the inquiry restarts
and there is now enough evidence to show that he will be forced to stand down by the start of October
when there will be ANOTHER by election
that he cannot stand in

I honestly believe Count Binface/Jon Harvey would be a better constituency MP than NF (wouldn't be hard, admittedly) and on that basis supporting him isn't a wasted or joke vote.

I’d vote for him anyway as a protest. But with those pledges I’d vote for him on a positive basis. Top set of promises which will be very easy to hold to account
