To ask what year your car is?

Mine is a 2012 hatchback, I wanted something cheap, reliable, easy to run and cheap repair costs and I'm happy with what I've got. I seem to be in a friend circle with nothing older than 2020 which is tough where they all fawn over each other's car but I've made the correct choice for me. Which is yours?

One is 2010 and I've had it 13 years.

I actually struggled to find a newer car that I liked that wasn't an automatic and wasn't fully electric. I don't want either, they'll have to prize my manual car from my cold dead hands

Agree. Mine is 2015 and I wouldn't be able to find similar in a newer model. I love my car.

I buy a new car every year or 2 years. My current one is a 2026.
Sometimes I part ex or sometimes I sell it separately to the new purchase, depending what works out better for me. But I'd never get a lease/finance as I think being in debt for a car is madness.

2025 my first new(ish it was an ex demonstrator) car I’ve owned and I love it. We’ve done years of bangers and it felt a false economy for us as we’d pick them up cheap but end up spending so much, the last MOT before we sold is cost far more than what we originally paid for the car and we had to have a rental for so long while it was being repaired

Well it depends on the car, diesels will go longer but I don't go for them for environmental reasons (personal choice). It's also though because I drive long distance but always solo, I prefer to change cars when I'm nearing 90-100k miles so I've got something to trade in for something that's more reliable. There'll always be someone who's got 150k out of a cheap hatchback but its a bit pot luck, and I don't want to be stuck on a roadside somewhere if I don't win the used car lottery!
We only have one car in the household and I use it as a work vehicle so just getting it in for repairs to maintain can be a pain.

2018 and I bought it new. It’s been great so far. No problems with it.

Presumably this is simply the difference between those who can buy outright and those who buy on lease or PCP, which are usually new or nearly new cars. I know that buying outright is cheaper in the long run, but if you don't have savings or struggle to get a decent loan it just isn't an option. Especially if you need a bigger car (eg kids)

My car is 2018 and I'll be replacing it in a year or two but that's only because I do 12k a year so cars don't last me that long before they start becoming unreliable!

1998 bought in 2004
So old its got a tape player and multi CD changer but its still going strong.

Mine are 2021 and 2022.

I do really high mileage so feel like I swap them often.

I have a 2011 Mazda axaela, it looks old/dated relative to all the other more modern cars in the staff carpark., and at times I feel inferior but then I have expensive holidays which my colleague who has huge car repayments is jealous.

I would like a car with more modcons, I will upgrade when my student loan is paid off.

Mine is 2010 and DHs is 2007. Both Audi A6 estates and going strong. Mine has done around 135k and DHs 36k (Japanese import). Might sell the 2010 one next year and will be looking for a 2015 Q7 probably.

How weird that even with a number greater than 2000 if you just put that followed by a full stop it still assumes you're trying to do a number bullet point and auto formats it.

  1. I do about 30k miles a year and anything I've had used has cost me far more in repairs and depreciation than the lease is costing.

I have a 2011 too but needs a few grand spending on it to get it started. Again proving my point above

My car is a 2022 plate. Bought it about a year ago. I get a personal loan, buy in “cash”, pay it off and keep it until it develops problems or I fancy a change. I then part exchange for something else.
I have had a brand new car twice before. Wouldn’t do it again. You lose so much money on it. I always get a car that’s a few years old, with low mileage and a full service history.

2014, it was 7 years old when I bought it.
I never change my car unless it stops working and is not worth repairing. This car has never needed any work except the obvious like a new battery and tyres, and has never failed the mot.

Mine is 2022 ford focus, just bought it a couple of months ago outright. Before that I had a 2016 Peugeot 5008 and I would have kept it longer but it unfortunately died 😢

We each have a 2 seater sports car which are our summer toys.
The others are SUVs. One I use in the winter and the other is used as a workhorse and tows our caravan. We live rurally. All are owned and not financed.

One 2017 owned
One 2024 leased via company salary sacrifice scheme. As its electric and includes all road and maintenance costs (including insurance) it works out pretty cost effective once the tax relief and benefit in kind is considered, and I need the reliability.

2022 changed last year because I needed an automatic. Previous one was 17 plate and would have kept longer if I could have.

thanks to DS wheelchair I can’t get one as small as I would like!
