To ask what year your car is?

Mine is a 2012 hatchback, I wanted something cheap, reliable, easy to run and cheap repair costs and I'm happy with what I've got. I seem to be in a friend circle with nothing older than 2020 which is tough where they all fawn over each other's car but I've made the correct choice for me. Which is yours?

2017, I tend to buy them a few years old and run them into the ground.

2011 Suzuki and I plan to drive it until it can drive no more - I reckon I can at least 5 more years out of it

late 2025 (75) Mazda 2 hybrid, financed on PCP. That's one affordable way to get a newer car.

Both 2019 and both drive Jazzes. Bought outright with cash. We buy our cars at around 2 years old and then keep until their reliability becomes an issue. DHs has done more miles than mine so I expect him to change his in the next 2 years or so.

My dad has 5 cars, one of which my mum also drives

One he bought in 1987 (1974 plate) which he lovingly restored over 20 years, a 1998 plate sports car he's had for 15 years , a new project car which he's had for 8 years and is currently still in pieces, he has a 2019 plate car SUV/4x4 for towing a caravan and a small hatchback my mum also drives for day to day. He keeps promising to get rid of some of them but it never seems to happen!

Like a pp I also buy 2-5 year old cars outright, then run them until they are near end of life. This is much the cheapest way to do it overall (though I appreciate it requires forward planning in terms of saving money each month for the next car purchase, but this is a much smaller amount than a monthly finance payment).

However I am delighted that so many people seem to prefer to pay through the nose for shiny new cars which they change every few years, as that means there are plenty of 2-5 year old cars around for me to buy at a much lower cost per year 😁

I do it this way.

I bought my current car for £10.8k when it was 3 years old and it had done 25k miles.

It's done 105k miles now. That's 80k miles I've driven it.
It's cost me 13.5pence per mile and that amount keeps getting smaller. That's how I look at it.

Its just passed the MOT again, I'm hoping I'll get another 5 years out of it.

I buy cars and drive them till they die. Have just surrendered the last car and got one now so 2026 plate but it will (hopefully) last for 10 years or more!
