To ask what year your car is?

Mine is a 2012 hatchback, I wanted something cheap, reliable, easy to run and cheap repair costs and I'm happy with what I've got. I seem to be in a friend circle with nothing older than 2020 which is tough where they all fawn over each other's car but I've made the correct choice for me. Which is yours?

2025 but … I buy nearly new ex demonstrator cars, service them correctly and keep them for twenty years. Previous one was 2006 and had 169k miles on the clock. Gave it to DSis

My car is 2025. I was driving a 4yr old Fiat 500, but it had multiple problems and was causing me huge anxiety - plus my life had changed massively. No longer was my car just my commuting car, it was now the ONLY car and had to accommodate two large dogs !

I bought a Nissan Duke which was an x courtesy car with 3,000 miles on the clock. I got it last October, and so far its been wonderful.

Same as you, 2012 hatchback, it's really reliable, nippy, well made so I don't have to spend much money on it.
Happy to keep it until it falls apart.

2010 Vauxhall Meriva, a true workhorse imo...had it 14 years.

1994 and 2005. They’re both toys and labours of love. I live in London and rarely drive except for fun jaunts, so practicality and fuel economy went out the window!

2016 - got it new on PCP and then my entire life crashed around me. Fortunately I had the money for the final payment by the time it was due, and the car has been outstanding - reliable, cheap to run, cheap to insure. It's got 137k miles on the clock and I'm going to keep it until it dies.

I bought a four year old one outright 6 years ago and will aim to do similar next time, it's been fantastic to date and still feels lovely to drive.
I looked at buying new on finance at the time and although I could afford the deposit and monthly repayments, I dismissed the idea after working out what I would be paying in total and thinking about where I'd prefer to put that money. In the years since I've gone from full time to part time and having no outstanding credit was part of what enabled me to do that, I wouldn't have had so much freedom if I'd been spending £300 a month on car repayments.

Mine’s a 2008 Smart ForTwo with 29k on the clock. Bought outright three years ago, costs peanuts to run and still going strong. Fingers crossed!

One 2013 and family car 2025 but leased in 2026. Couldn’t afford to buy an older car outright that c was big enough as our family car and found leasing deal that was affordable.

Like a pp I also buy 2-5 year old cars outright, then run them until they are near end of life. This is much the cheapest way to do it overall (though I appreciate it requires forward planning in terms of saving money each month for the next car purchase, but this is a much smaller amount than a monthly finance payment).

However I am delighted that so many people seem to prefer to pay through the nose for shiny new cars which they change every few years, as that means there are plenty of 2-5 year old cars around for me to buy at a much lower cost per year 😁

Some people seem to think you absolutely cannot have a child without having an SUV either which is nonsense.

2012 with over 180,000 miles on the clock! I absolutely don't care what other people think, that's a them problem. If it had a private plate I don't think you'd know how old it was as its in good condition and they only recently stopped making that model.

I know what you mean op. Everybody seems to have have very nice, very new cars on finance. I've never had a car newer than 10yrs old. My car needs replacing right now and I can't decide if I should be joining the PCP/HP masses or sticking to my usual method of buying a reliable older car outright.

PCP is no longer the deal it was pre COVID, I stepped off the PCP merry go round earlier this year and could not be happier. It’s particularly shit if you do more than 6k miles per year.
Company EV lease schemes seem to be rising in popularity and I think goes quite a way to explaining many of the shiny new cars on the road, particularly the Omodo/BYD/Chinese EV brands

Mine is 2014. My husband's was 2007 and had 165000 miles on clock but it developed a lot of rust and failed the MOT. we really only need one car so didn't replace it.

2012 Chevrolet too like PP. Under 80,000 miles so I'm hoping it will last a good few more years 🤞. I've had it about 8 years now and it's not our main family car though.

2025 - I bought it at the beginning of 2026.
Prior to this I was driving a 2013 without aircon, and I don't do well with the heat. I had an inheritance, so decided to bite the bullet and buy myself a nice car with all mod cons for a change. New car is a Honda, so I'm hoping it will be reliable and last a good while.
