Is my maths wrong? (Shop refund)

The store manager saying I was due the £1 voucher back was rejected by me because I didn't want her to get into trouble for giving me too much back (I think she thought I was entitled to the whole value back, and I thought she might have trouble with the numbers not tallying later if she needed it to).

No, she was almost certainly giving you the 57p extra as a good will gesture to get you out of the stop and stop complaining.

Just for next time if I'm bulk buying clothes to try on and will definitely be returning some of them because I only want one I put them through completely separately to my shopping so I've got a separate receipt then you always get the full refund.

Management was called who tried to give me a £38.43 credit card refund then give me a £1 gift card (which I explained was too much) You seriously turned down a £1 gift card because it would mean they’d given you too much of a refund? Have I understood that correctly? I think I have, but I cannot imagine that anyone would be that intent on making themselves that much of a giant pain in the arse, so I must have misunderstood.

£38. 43 is correct and I would have accepted that because that's what you paid using the voucher. Which is really just a discount voucher, if you buy something using a discount voucher and then take that thing back you get back what you paid. You don't then get the discount voucher again to use against something else

Tesco would have done the same - spread the £1 voucher proportionally over each item, so they would have given you the £38.43 as well.

Moral: dont use discount vouchers when you might return stuff!

I'm surprised they let you return swim wear that you'd taken out of the store and tried on at home. That's quite gross. You can't do it with underwear so why is swim wear different.

I'm assuming you've made a typing error, because you seem to be getting a refund for more than you were due. If you used a voucher the EPOS would have divided that between all your purchases and taking off a percentage of the items you were returning. If you wanted £39 back, you should have bought the potential returns separately.

Jesus I left £7 in unreturned change from M&S when I put in £20 to pay for something that was £13 and it didn’t give me any change back. It was lunchtime, I couldn’t hang around for long, the guy in the self service couldn’t fix it and he got a colleague who also couldn’t fathom how to give me my change so I just said forget it, I’m in a rush, and off I went,

I got £18 off for spending over £120. The receipt showed a percentage was taken off each item rather than the total at the end. So you probably evened out anyway but I would have taken the gift card

It wasn’t a gift voucher paid with cash, it was a loyalty coupon which is stated in the context of the post.
What rules do you think exist for this? It’s not a law, of course the shop can set their own policy for dealing with money off coupons.
