Today me and my OH are going for drinks and food in a city around 30 mins train from our city.
I am at a concert on Friday and there’s a shop that has a top I’m looking for (we don’t have the shop in our city ) I plan on wearing it for the concert.
I checked and it’s in stock
So I said I’m just gonna pop in and grab it
He said “no we aren’t shopping today ,your off work all week ,go and get it another day “
I told him I know we aren’t shopping ,I just want this specific top.
Im literally walking past the shop to get to the area with the pubs.
So now I’m gonna have to go back tomorrow (1 hour travel there and back ,plus another train fare”

Aibu to be a bit annoyed ?
I asked him again and he went in a mood so I just said fine il go another day.

Flippin’ Nora - does this really happen in the 21st century??
Please get a grip fgs !!
I would have swanned off, got my top, done another couple of hours shopping and (if he was still being daft) gone to eat on my own. However, my H would never behave like a ‘there we are then’ !

Pessismistic · 26/07/2026 14:38

Tell him to go get the drinks in and you will right behind him. Tosser.

SweetMotherofAbrahamLincoln · 26/07/2026 14:33

I voted YABU as I wouldn’t even have asked him, I’ve have told him what I was doing and done it.

IronEverything · 26/07/2026 14:29

YABU for not going to get the top.

What does him kicking off consist of?

Just wants to moan, doesn't want to leave him, wants reassurance she's not with a dickhead, goady poster. Who knows.

If I had posted about 5 times in the last 3 months about my partner doing dickish things, including drinking to oblivion and gambling, I’d probably come to the conclusion myself that he’s a dickhead.

AfraidToRun · 26/07/2026 14:26

He's already sulked, just buy the top of its sulksville either way...

OhThePotential · 26/07/2026 14:23

Mine always wants to come clothes shopping with me. If we’re in town together we will go round most shops together but then I have to physically guide him to the M&S cafe and get him tea and cake then run off and do my thing.

Tell him not be ridiculous and go and get your top.

So why does she create multiple threads but then does not engage with the posters? If you look at all her previous threads, she rarely comes back.

You misunderstood, I wasn't asking for permissions, I'm going to get the top.

Corrected that for you. No need to apologise.

It was a passive aggressive apology, certainly not sincere! 😂

Women who are married to nice men always think this kind of stuff can’t be real… But, sadly, it’s real life for lots of women. Even if you read the stories or people’s childhoods on MN of how their mother enabled a bad dad or hooked up with an even worse stepdad. I’m getting divorced if only for my child’s sake… But I know I’ll be happy once he’s gone!

Is there a back story?

Are you the type of person who is constantly shopping and buying stuff? because frankly that quickly becomes dull and shallow.

If not, then your partner is an idiot...

You don't have to go another day, you're choosing to do as he tells you. If he hates shopping then I suggest you stop buying him food or anything. Let him see what happens when shopping is eschewed.

Toure being controlled. Up to you whether you accept it and let it continue or not.

Why are the DH’s wants for their day out the only important thing though?

We don't know both sides here. I can certainly imagine this conversation happening after years of "I just want to pop in for one thing" turning into an exploration of everything available, every single time the couple go out. I can equally well imagine it as a control exercise by the DH.

Fluffyscrubberdo · 26/07/2026 14:09

CarbootJunction · 26/07/2026 14:08

I'm with DH on this. My DD turns a day out in London into a major shopping event, by route-marching us through the planned events/food/sightseeing, so we can hop on a tube to the nearest massive mall. It is exhausting. For her, a day in London is not complete without 2 hours in Sephora.
You know, OP, that you will never just grab that top in the store, and leave. And so does your DH.

Nopersbro · 26/07/2026 14:07

Just go. Do it as quickly as you reasonably can. Tell him he can walk ahead and you'll meet him at the pub if he prefers that to waiting outside for you or sitting on a bench or browsing nearby. It would be unreasonable to make a separate trip under the circumstances.

Gowlett · 26/07/2026 14:06

I’d just say off you go to the pub, by yourself.

It’s so annoying being married to a dickhead.

Asked DH about an event we have coming up.

Ideal time to discuss, quiet Sunday at home?

Nope! We’ve already texted, it’s already sorted as he mentioned it once, the first time. During the week, when I was at work. No need for me to ask about it again. He has just decided that’s what’s happening, end of story.

I’ve said I don’t want to go, now he’s pissed off.

Why can’t he just let you get the fucking top?

user293948849167 · 26/07/2026 14:05

Just go anyway? Why on earth are you doing what he says?

mamajong · 26/07/2026 14:04

Why does he get to decide? Understandable if its out of the way or makes you late but if you are walking past the shop just go and do it! He could head to the pub and you could just catch him up there after, its not like he also has to go

Gooseling · 26/07/2026 14:02

Thisthreadhasbeendeleted · 26/07/2026 13:46

Oh. I remember the OPs previous threads.
@inkyspells why do you continue to post on MN complaining about your husband?
It's starting to seem a little fantastical.

He/she is definitely a troll at this point 🤣

AnnaQuayRules · 26/07/2026 14:01

YABU for thinking you need his permission. Just tell him you're going to go in and get it and will catch up with him in the pub in 15 minutes.

ElleintheWoods · 26/07/2026 14:00

Go to the shop as you walk past or walk back, and meet him at the pub or at the car/ station after. Simples.

Surely he can function without you for 10 mins. Also, you're not 10, if you need to run an errand, you need to run an errand
