Here are two to start with:

"Just that really." after the initial title of the post, sometimes accompanied by shrug emoji.

The word "surely".

Do you have any that irrationally irritate you?

Is she overstepping?

Give your head a wobble!

This one always feels very old fashioned, like something from the 1950s. I imagine a hand lurching out from nowhere, placing itself on my head, and wobbling it around.

Even worse is 'We are plant-based'.

Oh , I've not been asked that , though it makes me think of a Brontosaurus

I love a sly ‘hth’ when I want to be patronising

GreenWheat · 25/07/2026 16:27

Accusing people of having "internalised misogyny" if they dare to suggest something another woman is doing is inappropriate or wrong.

Some of these have fallen out of favour thankfully:

Get your ducks in a row
Have a spa day
I'd go nuclear
Nom nom nom
Food of the Gods - always used to describe something banal like Supernoodles
Nurse/Dr/solicitor here
No is a complete sentence
Call 101 and log it

I think ducks in row is eternal on Mumsnet.

Wow . Just Wow

And the shorthand "veggie" for vegetarian. "Are you a veggie " or worse "are you veggie"
No , I'm a vegetrarian . It's not too many syllables is it ?

Even worse is 'We are plant-based'.

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 25/07/2026 15:24

”Picky bits” - both makes me irrationally angry and mildly repulsed.
”Naice ham” - I can’t tell if you think you’re being self-deprecating, funny or sneering at others but even though I am definitely a ham snob, I cannot bear it.
OH - they’re not your Other Half. Aspire to be a whole-ass person yourself, for crying out loud. I love my husband but he is NOT my “other half”. It’s saccharine, juvenile and makes you sound dependent.

Also “well why did you marry/have kids with him?”

whether the signs were there already, the horse has well and truly fucked off let alone bolted. And crucially, some people don’t recognise the signs in the first place or there just weren’t any.

I hold out some hope that when others read that comment on that type of thread, they recognize their own situation and potential future. And perhaps they then decide that they won’t marry/have children with the asshole.

"Use your words"

"You do you"

"I got screamed at..." (which I always interpret as a mild admonition about something or other)

The “I got screamed at” often comes after “ I calmly/politely asked…”

As if people were going to accuse the poster of being the original screamer.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/07/2026 15:05

"Super" used excessively . "I am super excited , I;m going to a super new resturant today , Their pizza is super delicious . I;m going to make an utter pig of myself and be super stuffed"

"So" . starting every bloody sentence with the word "So"

And while I'm at it -
Vocal Fry . I have to switch off so many YouTube videos because of tthis .

Super/So/Vocal Fry often co-incide .

ExtraOnions · 25/07/2026 15:03

“We are pregnant” .. no .. only one of you is pregnant.

MasterBeth · 25/07/2026 15:00

Vege or Tele when they mean Veggie or Telly.

Beyond. Beyond anything.
Heartbroken
Angry
Proud
Relieved
Worried

also “I can’t imagine…” as though limited imagination is somehow something to advertise

and “I’m struggling to understand…. “. So much struggling

Plus “I’m not sure” which invariably means I don’t know, rather than genuine uncertainty

And the salad is always served with “good bread” - not just bread.

Yes! Or "nice bread". In case we thought you were recommending revolting bread.

MasterBeth · 25/07/2026 14:56

"Non", when they mean "none".

MasterBeth · 25/07/2026 14:56

"In your opinion!"

Yeah, it's all my opinion, Pauline.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/07/2026 14:55

Pineapplesonpizza · 25/07/2026 03:03

omg 'veggies'. Can't bear it. Sets my teeth on edge. I wonder why though.

"Sets me teeth on edge."

No, it doesn't. Insufferable cliché.

MasterBeth · 25/07/2026 14:52

Pineapplesonpizza · 24/07/2026 20:21

Ending a sentence with no? gives me the same irritation as ending with 'surely'.
In fact, generally, ending a statement type sentence with a question mark can irk me.

Irk?

Who says "irk"?

Irksome.
