Letter from HA about loud music?

autumnbeee · 24/07/2026 19:37

So basically I received a letter from my HA about loud music causing a disturbance to other residents here.

I am the only one who received it.

I suspect my NDN reported me as I don't think who else it could be?

Surely they could have just left a polite note or approached me?

I assume this will be on my file now?

How is that the same as your tenant not being able to have a conversation?

housing associations reinvest profit into new housing. The more they have to invest into sending letters so that people can avoid simple conversations with their neighbours, the less they have for new housing.

many HAs are explicit that they expect you to take responsibility for yourself in simple matters. It’s like calling the police because you’ve decided you’re too scared to deal with it yourself.

My tenant does not owe the HA or their tenant anything other than to behave in a reasonable manner towards her neighbour. It's up to the HA to deal with their tenant who failed to show the same responsibility.

The HA in question, unlike you, were clear my tenant should speak direct to them, not their tenant.

Oh and there's nothing wrong with calling the police if your neighbour is behaving in a antisocial way.

LivingTheDreamish · 24/07/2026 22:34

Your reaction to this is very selfish. Don’t you care that you have been bothering neighbours with loud, offensive music? I suppose you don’t, or you wouldn’t be playing loud offensive music in the first place. It doesn’t matter how the message was relayed to you. Just stop doing it.

And yes if you persist with antisocial behaviours and generate a lot of complaints you won’t get a good reference from the HA should you need one. One complaint is inconsequential.

I asked my other neighbour and mentioned it on the WhatsApp chat and only I received it.

It was an advisory letter about keeping it down and that the lyrics were found to be offensive due to young children in the area.

That's the first you've mentioned anything about offensive lyrics....whose music are you listening to?

Ginburee · 24/07/2026 22:33

Sorry jut it's very inconsiderate to play music in your garden at all. Let alone it being loud enough that others hear the lyrics.
I would avoid you too.
Use headphones 🎧.

On my HA file if I ever require a landlord reference from them?

I do play music in the garden at times but surely if it was a nuisance they could have asked me via the neighbours hood WhatsApp group/ Facebook group?

Surely you know it is a nuisance without the letter tho. OP?

If your neighbours played their music, that you disliked, loudly, how would you feel?

PhaedraTwo · 24/07/2026 22:30

Backedoffhackedoff · 24/07/2026 22:17

They expect people to use common sense before taking their resource away from vulnerable tenants. Any housing officer would tell you to have a conversation first. There is nothing to think the OP would be a dangerous person to speak to 🙄

believe it or not, playing music in the garden doesn’t actually qualify as actionable ASB 😂 it might do if she carries on with it though.

Believe it or not loud music in the garden absolutely can constitute antisocial behaviour.

Mrstawnyowl · 24/07/2026 22:30

You say you play loud music at times, which implies it’s as and when. The trouble is, your neighbours will be tense in anticipation of the music suddenly coming on. When it’s quiet, they don’t know how long that will last.

PhaedraTwo · 24/07/2026 22:27

Really?

I own a flat in a tenement which is a mixture of owner occupied /privately rented and one owned by an HA. The flat I own is rented out and is next to the HA one. The HA tenant can sometimes be very noisy. The HA sent my tenant forms to record the time and duration of noise and were clear my tenant should contact them direct.

I disagree. People don't like approaching neighbours to complain. They just rely on neighbours to be considerate.

Just stop playing loud music with inappropriate lyrics

Buy some headphones

It just gets worse. Are you blasting ‘explicit’ music?

If so, you need to grow the f up.

Bollihobs · 24/07/2026 21:20

What utter rubbish.

All sorts of people live in HA accommodation encompassing a wide spectrum of needs amongst them. To say there's "an expectation" to speak directly to a problem neighbour rather than go through the proper channels of the HA is as irresponsible as it is untrue and could cause someone reading such nonsense and believing it genuine anxiety.

Honestly? Then they need to pull themselves together. How embarrassing.

They are not wasting the Housing Association's time. Dealing with antisocial tenants is part of their management responsibilities.

The OP isn't coming across as someone who would act reasonably if a complaint had been made direct.

You do realise that none of your updates are painting you in a good light?

Probably not.
You appear to be completely ignorant.

OneDreamyAquaEagle · 24/07/2026 22:13

CombatBarbie · 24/07/2026 20:14

So then move somewhere rural. Ffs the same people who whinge about kids playing in the street, people having bbqs (with no music) but hearing conversation and laughter.

The people who want to act like they don't have to consider others are the ones who should be living with no near neighbours, imho.

justasking111 · 24/07/2026 22:11

I use my ear buds a lot DH doesn't like to hear my phone. So my advice to @autumnbeee is to get some.

Restlessdreams1994 · 24/07/2026 22:08

I had a neighbour who used to turn up her kitchen stereo so she could hear it in the garden and also have constant loud conversations on speaker phone. It was almost every day and often half the night as well. I lived with it for eight years and it was awful.

I’ve now moved to a house where none of my neighbours play loud music and it is bliss to be able to sit in my garden and just enjoy the birds singing and the peace and quiet… and not know every detail of their personal lives because of loud phone conversations!

Nobody minds a bit of music now and again for a barbecue or social event but constantly playing music (or speaker phone calls/tiktok videos etc) outside is an absolute dick thing to do. I don’t know when people got too entitled and selfish to use headphones anymore but I find it very sad.

autumnbeee · 24/07/2026 22:08

Yes it is a terraced property.

My neighbours either side are sheep thanks 👌

I am far from antisocial but if I want to enjoy my garden (previous houses) with the radio on an acceptable level, I will do. Sitting in silence......fuck that. And if have had to duck tape my kids mouths shut to stop them laughing and shrieking in the trampoline.

Well thank goodness you don't have any neighbours. 'Children shrieking on the trampoline.' Good grief! And you actually think this is OK?!

I do feel sorry for the sheep though.

Surely you should have known that loud music is a disturbance and shouldn't have to be told. Why do you have it loud in the first place that the whole neighborhood can here it.

Start being showing consideration for others and others might then do the same back

This, just this.

CombatBarbie · 24/07/2026 22:00

PrettyLittleRose · 24/07/2026 20:26

Tell me you are an anti social neighbour who doesn't give two hoots about your neighbours, without telling me you are an anti social neighbour who doesn't give two hoots about your neighbours. 🙄

And people in rural areas have neighbours too dear. 🙄

Housing associations expect adults to be able to attempt basic conversations themselves in the first instance.

What nonsense.

Nofeckingway · 24/07/2026 21:58

Just because nobody approached does not mean they don't have a problem. Why do you assume that people wouldn't mind having to listen to your choice of music at all times . How selfish and inconsiderate of you . Even if it was just low it would be irritating but not anything to complain about . The fact that someone felt strongly enough to complain to the HA means it must have been loud . Serves you right to get a notice and may make you realise that you are not the most important person in the neighbourhood and be more respectful. You are lucky to be in a HA property so appreciate it and behave accordingly.
