Letter from HA about loud music?

autumnbeee · 24/07/2026 19:37

So basically I received a letter from my HA about loud music causing a disturbance to other residents here.

I am the only one who received it.

I suspect my NDN reported me as I don't think who else it could be?

Surely they could have just left a polite note or approached me?

I assume this will be on my file now?

Well we need the honesty about the music. Do you have a surround sound speaker/alexa full blast or is it low level background music.

For those saying dont play music, behave!!! Everyone is allowed to enjoy their own garden. Being a nuisance is loud music from morning til night. Normal is a kitchen (assuming its on the rear of the property) speaker louder than you would inside.

Wear headphones???? Seriously.....

well, the housing association will have a copy of the letter on your account, yes. That doesn’t mean anything though.

it would’ve been better if they’d spoken to you but loads and loads of people don’t have the confidence to do that and would rather waste a companies time instead 🙄
why don’t you pop round say sorry and keep it down? That’s the mature thing to do

How is it "wasting a company's time"??

That's their job isn't it?

In many cases it's right to be wary about approaching someone directly with an issue. It's the HA's job to deal with any ASB not individuals who for a multitude of reasons may not be able to deal directly.

Yeah, yeah, don’t be daft 😃

PrettyLittleRose · 24/07/2026 19:59

You seem to care more about your 'file' and the implications for YOU than you do about the nuisance you have been making of yourself, and what effect your loud music has been having on your neighbour. Hmm

On my HA file if I ever require a landlord reference from them?

I do play music in the garden at times but surely if it was a nuisance they could have asked me via the neighbours hood WhatsApp group/ Facebook group?

Only if they were happy taking the risk of somebody putting their windows through, slashing their tyres or any of the other things that can result from a complaint or request to turn the music down.

palorina · 24/07/2026 19:57

Enjoy your music in your garden with due respect for neighbours. I cannot understand how anyone could listen to music other than through bluetooth earphones, noise cancelling headphones, whatever.

Could you explain for those of us who don't understand, the need for playing music out loud in a residential area?

7238SM · 24/07/2026 19:57

Buy headphones or ear pods and play your music on those when in the garden. No one should be disturbed by anyone's music when in their own garden!
Its only you to blame if its on your file! 🙄

To be honest, I would assume that anyone antisocial enough to frequently play loud music in their garden would probably not be receptive to someone knocking on the door to ask them to stop. Did you really not think it might be really annoying for people living near you??

That’s the thing. It’s like being wary of challenging people who don’t use headphones on public transport or who ride bikes fast on the pavement or who drop litter. You don’t know what else they think is ok.

francy99 · 24/07/2026 19:57

Have you ever thought that whoever complained may have had issues with neighbours before and they tried speaking directly to neighbours or leaving a note but may have been met with abuse or aggression so they probably thought just to make a complaint to the HA. I have experience of neighbours playing loud music all hours and it’s awful. It starts to affect your mental health. If you want to play music load get some head/ear phones

No they won’t put it on a reference

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 24/07/2026 19:55

I would assume anyone playing loud music regularly with no consideration for their is probably a bit of a twat and not have confidence that a direct conversation would go well.

You can’t be an inconsiderate neighbour and then get all huffy that people reported you. You sort of lost your entitlement to a courtesy call from you neighbours really.

Hatty65 · 24/07/2026 19:54

If you play music in your garden then you are a nuisance. No one except you wants to hear your choice of music. Particularly if they are in their own garden and trying to enjoy some peace and quiet.

Wear headphones if you are outside. Why does this need pointing out to anybody?

KrazyKatty · 24/07/2026 19:54

Sheer entitlement! Expecting other people to have to point out the bleeding obvious!!

Respectful neighbours don’t EVER play music outdoors disturbing other people’s peace!

If you want to listen to music outdoors - wear headphones or go and sit in a field by yourself.

PeachesComeFromACan · 24/07/2026 19:53

God I hate people who play music in the garden, why would you assume that everyone else will be ok with having your choice of music forced on them?

Elieza · 24/07/2026 19:53

if you can do the time dont do the crime.

Why would they speak to you directly? If they don’t know you,
they won’t know what reaction they would get. Far more sensible to go via the housing association.

Gardenflowering · 24/07/2026 19:51

Is there are reason that you can’t or won’t wear headphones or have it at a low level so it’s not inflicted on everyone around you?

As one who has suffered antisocial behaviour from horrendous selfish neighbours, I cannot tell you how annoying, upsetting and stressful people who do this are to e everyone around them.

Please, please apologise and wear headphones in future if you have any sense of kindness about you. See it from others point of view and not just your own.

EmpressaurusKitty · 24/07/2026 19:50

People in the opposite block to me play loud music. Nobody’s approached them because they’re known to be scary.

I’d love the HA to send them a letter.

whiteboard · 24/07/2026 19:50

Everyone who has neighbours needs to be aware of how their behaviour affects them.
it doesn’t matter who you may have spoken to in the past or what your current relationship is with them. No music is really acceptable in an outside area. If your neighbours have found it reasonable to complain that your music is too loud it will be because they don’t feel they can talk to you directly ( for whatever reason ).

Thats basically all there is to it.

Passaggressfedup · 24/07/2026 19:50

Surely they could have just left a polite note or approached me?
Surely you should have known that loud music is a disturbance and shouldn't have to be told. Why do you have it loud in the first place that the whole neighborhood can here it.

Start being showing consideration for others and others might then do the same back

LauraJaneGrace · 24/07/2026 19:48

Just bloody well keep your music down then .
I would assume that anyone unreasonable enough to bother their neighbours to this extent was probably unapproachable and I don't blame your neighbours for reporting you.

OriginalSkang · 24/07/2026 19:47

Why on earth would you think playing music in your garden wouldn't be a nuisance?!

Arlanymor · 24/07/2026 19:45

I would be very embarrassed to receive a letter like this and rather than wondering why they didn’t approach me directly, I would be going directly to them to apologise. Not everyone feels able to raise stuff like this - you may think you’re approachable, they may not - and why would they mention it in a group chat? Say sorry, turn down the volume or buy some headphones.

Octavia64 · 24/07/2026 19:44

They might not be on the WhatsApp group

lots of people won’t confront people playing loud music because they assume they will be aggressive.
