AIBU to ask what you’d do if your DH revealed he was actually an international gun for hire, and not a salesman?

I ask you to imagine this. You’ve been with your DH for about ten years. One kid. You have a great income and lifestyle; a beautiful house, nice things, lovely car. It’s primarily funded by DH’s job in international sales. It takes him away from home for weeks, sometimes longer, but the material benefits are tangible and obvious. He also tells you one day that he’ll give it up and you’ll live a comfortable life.

Then the bombshell - you find out the sales job isn’t a sales job. Your DH is actually an international assassin. He has a vague moral code - he only takes out adults, only takes out men, only takes out those he considers are criminal or immoral (in his eyes) - bad guys basically. However, he remains a gun for hire.

AIBU to ask what you’d do?

And yes, I’ve been watching Day of the Jackal.

I would leave, immediately. His work puts the entire family at risk and I'd want to be as far away as possible.

Exactly - but I'm already screwed on that point if I'm 10 years in so I think the only way forward is to embrace it and enjoy the material rewards 😂

The 1973 film Day of the Jackal with Edward Fox is one of my favourite films. Is that what you have been watching?
It's absolutely brilliantly made and brilliantly acted. I watch it a couple of times a year and never tire of it.
The total psychopathic coldness of Edward Fox is absolutely chilling.

I agree completely. Freddie Forsyth’s original novel is excellent. Fred Zimmerman’s 1973 film is, if anything, even better - a genuine classic. Sky’s TV series is crap.

I would be gobsmacked as he can't even put the bin out without being prompted. He is a electrician by trade with around £5000 worth of tools at his disposal but cant fix our light fitting.

Like fuck he could pull that off.

That's electricians all over, isn't it? My Dad was very well qualified as one but we lived in a house with crumbling Edwardian wiring. In the 1970s.

Parents moved, he rewired half the village for free as retired and bored

I dated someone once where over a period, it became clear that he had an ...interesting... past (I'm pretty sure he wasn't a Walter Mitty, he drew no attention to himself but some things were just a bit strange and he was definitely ex military)

I finally asked him if he'd been a mercenary. His answer was "I prefer the term 'soldier of fortune' ".

Things to do with national security I would be OK with, executing random people for money not, although as this is entirely hypothetical I might have a rethink for the young Edward Fox, not so much Eddie Redmayne, good actor though he is.

I'd want to know what pension plans he had.
The job is hardly paying NI or a workplace pension.
And I would take out Life Insurance on him.

I’d give him a list and ask if he could work them into his schedule then proceed as normal.
