Have you ever met your doppelganger?

No, but one evening I was in a bar with friends and two women walked up to me said hi and when I didn’t know who they were got quite aggressive, saying "why are you being like this?" "You know us!" They wouldn’t leave me and my friends alone and continued to sit on the end of the table with us ignoring them.

They were so convinced I was this other woman they knew, it was the most bizarre thing! So yes, someone looks very much like me and has even been to the same bar as me.

Never seen this person though, which is even more strange.

Never met my doppelganger, but she caused me a fair amount of bother in the late 70s when "I" was seen around town with a couple of different men. My boyfriend at the time took a fair bit of convincing that it wasn't me holding hands with another man in the cafe at Leeds/Bradford airport... I never did find out who'd been reporting back to him, bloody shitstirrer!

I spent about 10 mins at a bus stop once explaining to a lady that I wasn’t Sarah who she had had Christmas dinner with one year despite living on same road, same dog breed, similar age and sex DC.

A bit later I met Sarah when dog walking. I could see the similarity but not to the extent the bus stop lady spent ages I insisting I was Sarah and she had spent Christmas with me.

In my early 20s a few randoms said I looked like 'Rebecca' or something like that but I never saw her, we might look very different to each other now.

I watched an excellent YouTube documentary about this phenomenon. Apparently we all have multiple doppelgangers worldwide as there's only so much variety to features.

Yes…I have an identical twin sister!

No, thankfully. I'm not superstitious, but the idea of meeting my doppelganger gives me the creeps.

My aunt is the image of 'sharon' in the later birds of a feather

A friend has one in the town we live in but they've never met-i often see the 'twin' out and about (the only difference is about a foot in height)

A friend had one in the area she lived in which was unnerving when friend died and the other lady would often walk past me

When I was a teenager, I went on a French exchange and the family had a wedding to go to when I was there, so I went too. Another guest at the wedding was the doppelganger of my friend's boyfriend. He looked nothing like the local lads. I took his photo to show everyone back at home, everyone thought he looked like him. It freaked out the boyfriend that he had a doppelganger.

I one got a bunch of missed calls and messages which I only saw when I got dragged out of my English class. Apparently my auntie had seen me smoking and bunking off school, in a town over an hour away from my school. She was so convinced it was me, that my mum had called the school and made them drag me out of class to confirm I was actually there and not in my aunties town. My mum was so freaked out that she drove to my aunties house and was stood, mobile in hand, looking at my doppelgänger as she called the school.
Since then I have repeatedly been accused of being places I either have no desire to go and on one memorable occasion got accused of skulking around down some back alleyway when I was actually sick with flu. My auntie every so often sends me a photo of “what my Twin is up to” including when she was pushing a pram with 3 babies down the street at the same time as I was in hospital.
Never met her, have no clue who she is, but it’s good fun to think about occasionally.

I have, several times. She worked in the same large office block so we had to share an elevator on occasion. Same long bright red hair , height and body build. It was shocking and bizarre - and neither of ever made eye contact 😳

I've never met them but they've been sighted around the same city I live.

I've had people wave at me with full recognition, come up to me to start speaking and then realise it's not who they thought, people tell me 'I saw you in X place' when I wasn't.

I would be accused of all sorts by the ex on the basis that I'd been seen doing something. Would have written it off as the ramblings of a mad cunt were it not for random people coming up and saying hello as though I knew them and one job interview where she swore that I was using a false name.

Few years later, my eldest was playing on the climbing frame in a beer garden when an identical child in the other colourway of the same dress came round the corner. Identical all the way to exactly the same shade of red hair, same waves, same white eyebrows and lashes and freckles pattern.

We left when it became clear the father was about to get a massive bollocking from the mum.

Guess my father got around more than was ever known.

Yep, he works on the butchers counter in my local Sainsbury's. It was the closest supermarket to my old workplace and I had so many colleagues say "Just seen you in your second job!"

Even DP thinks he looks like me. I went over to have a nose and I really can't see the similarity, but everyone else can so there must be something to it.

I've also been told multiple times I look like Keanu Reeves. I'll happily take that one!

Yes. For a moment I thought she was me until I realised that I was me.

People have always often told me I look like someone they know - either they can't remember who, or it's their friend's sister.

A good ten years after my dad died, my brother got married. The vicar was his wife's grandfather. So he'd already met the guy, but hadn't mentioned anything strange.

When the vicar walked in, you could just hear the gasp and murmur across the church - 'it's John!' So distracting. The bloke was absolutely identical - appearance, voice, mannerisms. The only thing that was different was that he was wearing hearing aids. My dad was even a registrar, so performed wedding ceremonies.

Afterwards, the entire reception was taken up with everyone discussing the likeness. My brother just shrugged, and said 'yeah, I guess he looks a bit like him.'

I've got mixed Scottish and Irish ancestry and I used to get bullied at school for my red hair and milk white skin. When I was about 10 we went to visit the small town where my great grandfather came from and saw quite a few girls there who looked just like me - same colouring, same facial features, similar build, everything. It was slightly weird but I loved blending in instead of being picked on!

I saw that, it was fascinating. It's on Netflix, can't remember the title tho.

I am clearly very un-unique looking as I have met 1 who is almost identical to me. The other - DD when very little and met the OW for a playdate with her children. She told me she thought it was me when she saw me and that we even have the same voice.

My mother has a doppelganger who is very famous. Mum died many years ago, so it's very strange to see how she would have looked as an old lady and slightly comforting in a weird way to still see "my mum".

I've had people I know extremely well telling me they saw me in xyz and I ignored them (I wasn't there), and my best friend was adamant she'd seen me snogging a bloke who wasn't my husband in a car (absolutely not me).

There was a bunch of blokes where I used to work adamant that I was regularly seen in a certain, somewhat dodgy, place, with various different blokes, doing things that I definitely wouldn't. So insistent were they, that I finally said, right next time you see "me" come up and say hello. Finally one did and reported back that it was indeed not me when you got up close, but she looked very like me and her name is X.

There was a programme on telly about a teenager going to college and his double had just left. It turned out he was one of triplets.

Yes, I had a Saturday job in a large London department store in my teens. I had several people come by and call me by somebody else’s name and then somebody ask me about a night out and I said I think you’ve got the wrong person, my name is X. She was shocked and said “you’ve got a doppelgänger”. I didn’t meet her for a few months but when we came face to face one day we were both absolutely gobsmacked at how alike we looked! It became a bit of a “sister from another mister” joke. I think we all have one!

I met my (late) father's doppelganger in a café a few years ago. DH and I had just sat down when he started talking to us, though I don't think I said anything for the first few minutes I was so shocked.

My DH said later that I'd gone really pale and that it only clicked for him part-way into the conversation why (he only met my dad a handful of times before he died).

It felt particularly poignant because we were visitors to the village, but were thinking about moving there, so it felt like a sign. Although we haven't moved yet!

We met the identical twin of my Dc on holiday about 10 years ago. We were all so astonished at the likeness.

Their eyes were different colours and one was a year older, but it was an uncanny resemblance.
