Is this unhygienic?!

I've just had my post saying the same hidden by MN. I'd would mark a hotel or guest house down for using those single one off bottles.

What does she do when using the loo in other people's homes. Most people would have liquid hand wash in their bathrooms. Also does she bring her own shampoo to the hairdresser as they have large dispensers for shampoo and conditioner.
The loos at many cafés and restaurants have bottles of liquid soap for washing hands and how many people does she think have washed their hands in these places

A shared soap or shampoo dispenser is one of the lowest risk items, because you then proceed to wash you hands/body/hair, thus dealing with any contamination that may be present.

Everyone knows the big issue is the germs on the tap.

I usually use hotel toiletries but I always have a selection of small bottles in my wash bag, just in case I need a backup.

As other posters have said, you could make future guests aware regarding toiletries and add that it's part of your sustainability programme.

Do you take your own soap out and about with you at all times? To work? To the gym? The spa?

Most nice hotels do this nowadays, it's far better for the environment. Some of them put a note explaining this in the room so maybe do that.

I've just stayed in a five star hotel that had pump dispenser toiletries. It never occured to me that it might be unhygienic. I wonder what they mean!?

If they are pump bottles this is fine and like most hotels. Your place sounds lovely!

I agree. I'm querying that poster's logic in why bottles are more hygienic if attached to the wall!

Why not? It's becoming really rare these days for hotels not to provide only full size bottles - some in wall containers, some not.

I actually made a negative comment on Expedia recently about a guest house we stayed in a couple of weeks ago which was still using those ridiculous teeny one off bottles. They're horriblly bad for the environment.

Perfectly fine maybe you should reply and say you thinking of the impact of plastic waste and the environment! That shud shut her up ,!!
I just travelled and I used the pump.bottles attached the the shower !!! Actually nice not having to worry about buying loads of mini travel items !

How utterly batshit. Who was your guest? Howard Hughes? Large wall mounted bottles of shampoo and bodywash are common everywhere in hotels, especially in Europe as there is an EU regularion that bans those mall throway minis now.

Also TBH I would not expect any free toileteries in a holiday let so you are going over and above.

I don't tend to use hotel stuff as I like my own shampoo and soap and always bring it with me, but that is a brand preference not an insane germ phobia thing.

There's always someone complaining about something OP. You are an unusually generous hist. The last Airbnb I stayed in offered nothing, not evrn teabags or salt and pepper. Stick some photos up of the shower get etc, and wait to see what other nitpicking you get.

I had similar. There was some light bobbling on a skirt I sold for m £1. It was a £60 skirt new!

I wonder if the reviewer had read the blog of someone who'd found that someone else had shat in (or otherwise got poo into) the shower gel dispenser at their gym showers.

Anyway they should have brought their own. Don't get hung up on it.

There used to be an advert for a home soap dispenser with a no-touch mechanism - 'Never touch a dirty bottle again' or somesuch. The most pointless idea ever, as self-evidently the first thing you do after touching one is wash your hands!

So what?

It's Soap. It cleans. So if you did touch it,you'd literally have soap on your hand in one second and could...you know...wash your hands....

And also, the OP presumably wipes the bottles clean between each visit?

And also you would also be touching it with your own arsey-hand, and then touch it again after to do your legs or whatever....

Most hotels (even nice ones!) do this so the reviewer seems out of touch with reality.

I wouldn’t use them, but I’m funny about shampoo/conditioner/bodywash, and assume they’ll be cheap or not as good as what I use (even nice bottles can be cheaply refilled!) but I can’t imagine it ever featuring in my review of a property.
