Husband having a go when I touch up make up on holiday

Geoleo · 22/07/2026 17:35

Does your husband have patience with you touching up your make up/putting in a few curls in your hair when you’re on holiday. Obviously in the morning we usually agree a time to leave the room so that’s less an issue. Although he does insist I do my hair / makeup in the bathroom and forbids putting on the light in the room which can be awkward when I need to look for items.

But if we go to the room for a freshen up he is completely on me and moaning if I decide I want to touch up my make up. Just saying “come on hurry up” “we’re wasting time” the entire time etc. Im definitely not putting on a full face just cleaning up lip liner/mascara or brushing my hair and reapplying deodorant. 10 mins at most. I don’t know his moaning has absolutely annoyed me. 10 mins either way should not make a difference to anything. Why can’t he just sit on his phone and not nag me for 10 mins. Is this normal?

i enjoy looking my best. I know not everyone cares for make up but I do

he nags non stop even if we have agreed I can have 10 mins.

OP posts:
HoppingPavlova · 23/07/2026 13:52

the evening getting ready would be at least an hour

Disagree. I’ve done it in under 10mins on most occasions in order to get out the door (in preference of maximising my nanna nap😁).

HoppingPavlova · 23/07/2026 13:50

Huh? When we go back to the room, I collapse on the bed to get some zzz’s and DH is on at me to get up to go to dinner before places stop taking bookings/walk in’s. I do find it annoying, but on the other hand, ultimately, I’d probably be pissed to miss dinner. Fuck the lipliner, I’m more worried about the sleep dribble caked to my face as we race out the door.

LiteraryBambi · 23/07/2026 07:31

Wait, if you've both been out all day (hot country? beach?) then surely you'll both have a shower and freshen up for donner anyway.

Otherwise.....gross.

It read to me more like regular popping back to the room throughout the day rather than a before dinner shower/getting ready which if a quick touch up takes ten minutes, the evening getting ready would be at least an hour.

Wasting holiday time? Why are your holidays so regimented? I can understand it if you’ve planned an excursion that has a specific start time but otherwise why? It sounds like “Come on DH, if we don’t leave sharpish we won’t be in the pool by 7:30, meaning we only have an hour before we start reading. At this rate I won’t get through my 50 page target by my 10:00 coffee”. Sounds exhausting!

Not regimented, just so many things that I would rather be doing on holiday than sitting in the room while he faffs about. I don't go on holiday to sit in the room.

All those posts and only three by the OP

Not the original post calling me ‘pick me’ for not wearing make up though? That’s ok with you?

@cardibach

you seem to think you are superior to other women so yes you are a pick me girl…why can’t other women be like you and be happy and carefree and easy going without slapping on ‘paint’ on their faces?! Why can’t they just be content in themselves and not hold up their husband from what he wants to do?! Pesky women and their silly slap, such a nuisance.

cardibach · 23/07/2026 13:14

Brightlittlecanary · 23/07/2026 13:09

Yeah you did.

look you don’t wear make up, if you’ve hang ups about your looks, that’s not anyone here’s fault. Take that little piece of baggage and manage it elsewhere.

Can you indicate where? Because it would be odd if I judged someone for something I have no interest in. And I don’t have any notable hang ups abput my appearance thanks. Why would you think I do?
Both suggestions sound very much like projection to me. Maybe baggage for you to manage elsewhere?

Harrriet · 23/07/2026 13:13

Separate hotel rooms you can then faff around, do your hair & makeup to your hearts content. Actually Separate countries or counties might be preferable

cardibach · 23/07/2026 13:07

That’s fine, because I’m not judging women on their appearance. Not at all. Or ‘grooming’ whatevere that means to you - in my experience it hides a judgement. Women judge me as ‘not groomed’ which apparently is a negative, because I don’t wear make up. Whereas I couldn’t care less if anyone else wears some.

Yeah you did.

Oh absolutely honey, I have an opinion on women who judge other women on their appearance and their grooming. And I can assure you, it’s not a judgement you wish to read.

GO AWAY

I never quoted you, I never tagged you, I never replied to a comment you made. If you don’t understand the basics of posting on the internet stop quoting me.

No one called you a pick me because you don’t wear makeup, the post was quite directly referencing the posters who are shitting all over a normal feminine activity that many women partake in, and doing so in order to position themselves as so much better, more cultured and secure. It’s fucking nonsense, the women who go out of their way to poke the OP about daring to brush her hair and put on a bit of lipstick and claim that makes her insecure, self obsessed, and unable to enjoy a holiday are misogynistic.

GO AWAY
Sorry, but 😂
Are you new to internet discussions? It doesn't work like that 😁

Didn’t quote me, you say?
Stop policing who can say what and where on a public forum. Especially when you are wrong about who you have engaged with and what you’ve said to them.

Remind me again who is the misogynist around here? Chirped my little opinion? Wow.
And I’m in the quote thread anyway. I’m as involved as you became when you joined in.

I can see why some people interpreted your comment referring to make up as ‘extra paint’ a tad judgmental.

Does it really matter if people choose to boost their confidence through wearing make up? Surely we all have things we do to give us a little boost?

It’s not judgemental. And I have never said people shouldn’t do it, or even that I don’t (though I don’t as it happens - not for over a decade). Just that it’s not ‘pick me’ not to and that always wearing it coukd mean not being comfortable in your own skin.

MickyMoonshine · 23/07/2026 12:23

cardibach · 23/07/2026 11:37

Were they? What am I judging? I merely said make up is an expectation of many men and that it isn’t ‘pick me’ to not wear it. I’ve read back the thread. Can’t see anything else.

Whatbloodysummer · 23/07/2026 11:51

He sounds like a joyless prick OP.

He 'forbids' you from putting on the main light, I'm assuming that's because he's still asleep/dozing in bed while you're getting ready?

So he just wants you to tiptoe round in the bloody dark until 10mins before the agreed time because HE doesn't feel the need to do anything other than a 5 min shower before leaving?

Erm, fuck no.

I'd honestly be getting ready long before I needed to, just to fuck off out of the room before he even got up, then I'd have a go at him for 'wasting time' having a bloody shower once he caught up with me at breakfast!

@SeaAndSangria

so what if it is nearer to half an hour. No one is stopping him going down to the bar or down the pool or whatever. A couple don’t have to be joined at the hip all the time when on holiday.

Yeah, I know, which is why I said he should get himself off to the bar or wherever and stop waiting around for her

Minasama · 23/07/2026 11:28

Honeyhonayboo · 22/07/2026 20:48

💯 mumsnet has a huge issue with makeup and any other silly girl things.

Pick me girls are the worst flavour of misogyny.

What is a pick me girl?

Cherrytree86 · 23/07/2026 11:27

SeaAndSangria · 23/07/2026 11:18

Is it really 10 minutes though? What you say is "only 10 minutes" is probably nearer half an hour.
Faffers do my nut in, always fannying about when you need to be off.
If I was him, I'd say "meet you by the pool when you're done" or "I'll be in the bar" or whatever.
Can you tell I've had too many years putting up with them lol and don't pander to their shit anymore 😁

What’s going on here then, falsify yourself, change your appearance , how hyperbolic, mean ask for it. The op is clear she wants to.

nothong worse than women judging women and then trying to pretend it’s men’s fault.
