Husband having a go when I touch up make up on holiday

Geoleo · 22/07/2026 17:35

Does your husband have patience with you touching up your make up/putting in a few curls in your hair when you’re on holiday. Obviously in the morning we usually agree a time to leave the room so that’s less an issue. Although he does insist I do my hair / makeup in the bathroom and forbids putting on the light in the room which can be awkward when I need to look for items.

But if we go to the room for a freshen up he is completely on me and moaning if I decide I want to touch up my make up. Just saying “come on hurry up” “we’re wasting time” the entire time etc. Im definitely not putting on a full face just cleaning up lip liner/mascara or brushing my hair and reapplying deodorant. 10 mins at most. I don’t know his moaning has absolutely annoyed me. 10 mins either way should not make a difference to anything. Why can’t he just sit on his phone and not nag me for 10 mins. Is this normal?

i enjoy looking my best. I know not everyone cares for make up but I do

he nags non stop even if we have agreed I can have 10 mins.

The OP hasn’t mentioned going back to the room multiple times. Why are you making stuff up?

And who are you to dictate what is sufficient for a ‘touch up’? I don’t carry a comb or deodorant and would much prefer to freshen up in my room rather than on the go.

I'm not making anything up. Read the OP properly.

If that's what OP prefers, fine. But she's holding up other people with a lot of unnecessary faffing, and her husband is entitled to be unhappy about it.

You can’t be serious, she’s on holiday, why on earth should she be banned from going back to her room and walk about with deodorant in her bag, ? I mean that’s disgusting in the base case, putting deodorant on over sweat.

The issue isn't her going back to the room, but that she's holding up everything else while she faffs around with curlers, make up etc..

The deodorant issue is purely OP's, in general people don't feel the need to reapply deodorant during day, presumably because they use effective deodorant. But if you really must, then it's easy enough to have a wipe under your arms first with wet wipes..

I suppose it would depend on why you are going back to the room? If you are just going back to grab a bag or jumper etc I would be annoyed but if you were going back to chill out for 30 minutes etc I can't see the problem.

Personally I would need 10 minutes from getting out the shower to leaving the room to be ready so can't see why anyone would need to go back and touch anything up but each to their own!

She specifically said they go back to the room to freshen up . It’s right there in the op.

Because people are being rude.

Yep, a lot of women who don’t wear makeup are soooo snotty about women who do. It really doesn’t make them better, or more intelligent, or whatever they like to think.

Brightlittlecanary · 23/07/2026 18:51

Sereine · 23/07/2026 18:04

Sure it's normal to do that in the evening, but that tends to be because you're showering off salt water, sand, chlorine, dirt from a day's sightseeing etc, and/or getting ready to go out for dinner and getting a bit more dressed up. That's not what OP is talking about.

Most people carry combs, which should be more than adequate for a touch-up. If you've got a bag with your sunglasses, book, suntan lotion etc in it's easy enough to include a small stick of deodorant.

I dont carry a comb because I cant use them.

Ditto stick deodorant.

But, mostly, I'd rather not freshen up in a public toilet when I can pop back to my room a mere 2 min walk away and take a few mins to sort myself out there. Much easier.

“That’s not what OP is talking about” do you have a direct line to the OP or something because she hasn’t mentioned going back to the room multiple times a day purely to do makeup.

Why would OP have to do carry a brush and deodorant about with her because you do though?

Sereine · 23/07/2026 18:10

AutumnHazel · 23/07/2026 09:03

You’re completely missing the point of the thread. It’s the OPs choice whether she wants to spend 10 minutes preparing herself in the morning. I’m sure we could pick apart whether each 10 minute slot of your holiday was optimally utilised based on our own preferences, but why would we?

The issue is that the OP’s DH is making what should be a relaxing holiday into an ordeal because he can’t let her spend 10 minutes doing something she wants to do at the start of the day… doesn’t really matter what it is.

It’s not even like he’s been up for hours waiting as he’s only been out kf bed for 10 minutes himself! It would be exhausting on a work day, but on holiday… it’s crazy! Don’t some people know how to relax?

I think it may be you who are missing the point. OP has said that the issue is not getting ready in the mornings, but when she goes back to the hotel room and insists on "freshening up". It clearly does take more than 10 minutes, given that she's including curling her hair.

Sereine · 23/07/2026 18:04

Honeyhonayboo · 23/07/2026 08:49

It’s completely normal to go back to your room between a day out in the sun in hot weather and an evening on holiday. You would be very abnormal to never do this.

Why on earth would anyone lug a hairbrush and deodorant around to do it in a public bathroom rather than going home and actually freshening up after being in the sun/pool/beach?

it put me on edge every time we went back to the room. Bloody annoying

Who the fuck does he think he is? Tell him to leave without you and have the day to yourself.

This isn't the only incident of this type with him, is it?

@cardibach

you seem to think you are superior to other women so yes you are a pick me girl…why can’t other women be like you and be happy and carefree and easy going without slapping on ‘paint’ on their faces?! Why can’t they just be content in themselves and not hold up their husband from what he wants to do?! Pesky women and their silly slap, such a nuisance.

Goodness, make-up proponents are incredibly aggressive. I wonder why?

forbid !!! Holidays surely arnt regimented unless you’re going to miss a trip you’ve booked or something

worldshottestmom · 23/07/2026 16:29

Yeaaa you're partner can't stop you from doing ANYTHING.

"Forbid" ????? Jesus.

I would say 'fuck him', but you should fuck someone else instead and leave him in the past. It only gets worse. It starts small so you ignore your instincts and accept more and more and it's always worse and worse until you find yourself trapped. Don't take 10 years of it like I did.

I cant speak for other threads but im 99.9% certain no one has described styled hair and makeup as basic hygiene on here. That would be pretty wild.

There have however been multiple comments about make up wearers who want to have a 10 min touch up as being obsessive, lacking self esteem, different person, fake etc. But shhhh, we'll not talk about those.

Its also clear the "pick me" is nothing to do with not wearing makeup, I mean, if you wanna talk about out of context.....

But anyway, bye 👋 Maybe theres another make up thread where you can go and tell women they wear paint. Have fun!

No I’ve never seen that either, unless someone was saying that’s their basic hygiene. Which is very different to saying it’s everyone’s.

but I’ve seen so so many snide comments about women wearing make up. It clearly is something to do with the perception of attractiveness, hence the comment on men.

most women wear make up for them. Not men. Like wearing a nice outfit, or brushing your hair. Make up done right enhances our features, it is not paint. It is not to change our appearance. It is to enhance it.

I’ve good skin, I’m happy make up free, but I also love wearing make up. I know how to do it well, with good quality products, that enhances my features, flawless dewy skin with a hint of a flush, full lips, ( just lipstick close to my own lip tone) thick longer lashes, ( just with mascara) , brows filled in and tidied. I still looo like me, my face isn’t painted, but I look like a naturally flawless version of me.

and if that’s changing my appearance or painting my face, then cover me in paint and call me disguised. I’m all up for it. Does it mean I’m not comfortable in my own skin, of course not, that’s silly.

but I do think those who object and make snide comments, aren’t comfortable in their own skin they don’t perceive themselves as attractive and that’s the issue. If other women stopped wearing it they’d look less attractive and even the playing field.

You think? I find the opposite. Styled hair and makeup have been described as ‘basics’ here and people who don’t do that as lacking basic hygiene. Still don’t understand how not wearing make up is being pick me, but everything here seems a bit topsy turvy. Those quotations are out of context and not jibes by the way. But I’m out. Hiding the thread.

Huh? When we go back to the room, I collapse on the bed to get some zzz’s and DH is on at me to get up to go to dinner before places stop taking bookings/walk in’s. I do find it annoying, but on the other hand, ultimately, I’d probably be pissed to miss dinner. Fuck the lipliner, I’m more worried about the sleep dribble caked to my face as we race out the door.

@HoppingPavlova

nice 🙄

I said similar on another thread recently - very rare you see women putting down other women who choose not to wear makeup or get tweakments etc. But plenty of snidey comments from women towards those that do. Weird.

You need me to tell you what you posted? Is there a back story here?

You can’t just brush your hair and put a nice dress on?

Do you wear make up? That’s changing your appearance. Do men do it?

It’s about being happy in your own skin without extra paint

Make up isn’t a necessary part of self respect. Not being able to go anywhere without it is a bit worrying

anyway, just for clarity, yes your comments are judgemental little jibes. And you sound far from a woman comfortable in her own skin. Becaude women comfortable in their own skin don’t feel the need to make little jibes to other women over their appearance.

Both suggestions sound very much like projection to me. Maybe baggage for you to manage elsewhere?
