AIBU to think school giving out awards to exceptional children is unfair?

Year 6 leavers assembly, some children were invited beforehand to a private invite only special awards ceremony for exceptional achievements. They then stood up and showed their awards at the general leavers assembly. Does this seem unfair? I felt for all the children who didn’t get a special award.

YABU - this is normal for a leavers assembly
YANBU - this is unfair

Do you think exceptional achievements should remain unacknowledged? Or they should give prizes for non events? If everybody is special, nobody is special.

No I don’t think it’s unfair. It’s important to recognise high achievers. Why do you think it’s unfair?

If 35 out of 40 kids got an award that is awful if less than half then why should those with special achievements not be celebrated?
